Hi I am currently running Weathercat and a Davis Vantage Vue on an Intel based iMac with the Silicon Labs device driver. However I am moving to a new mac running Apple (M2) Silicon and MacOS Ventura. Do I still need the Silicon labs device driver ?  I suspect I do but wanted others input.

Also has anybody successfully used the Apple Transfer function that moves "everything" to the new machine ?  Does that include the Silicon Lab device driver or do I need to install that separately ?

Thank for sharing your experience.

Ray

Dear Ray and WeatherCat faithful,

I don't know for sure, but I believe you still need the driver.  Can anyone using a newer Mac confirm this?

Also has anybody successfully used the Apple Transfer function that moves "everything" to the new machine ?  Does that include the Silicon Lab device driver or do I need to install that separately ?

I have used this feature in the past and I believe it moves everything including flies like the driver over.  However, I would recommend that you manually install the latest driver as a precaution.  The download URL has changed:

https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads

I have updated the WeatherCat Wiki entries to have the current URL.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Edouard

I know that Steve has an M2 Mac and is using the device driver for his USB logger. Here is his setup:

Computer: 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro, 32 GB RAM
OS: MacOS 13.3.1 Ventura
Hardware: Davis wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus w/24 hour FARS, wireless anemometer transmitter, Leaf & Soil Temp/Moisture Station, Weatherlink USB data logger
Software: WeatherCat version 3.2, (build 364), USB driver: CP210 USB to UART Bridge Controller 6.0.2

Thanks! Yep, I followed the wiki, and everything worked perfectly! I did not use the Apple transfer, as it brings everything in, whether it is needed or not.

I don't use Apple's Migration Assistant either, for the same reason. Like Steve, I do it this way:
