How do I get weather cat to do SFTP uploads?
« on: February 20, 2021, 12:03:37 AM »
So I'm new to weathercat, having been a cumulus user for years. I'm trying to get weathercat to upload web pages to my web page hosted at Gandi.net. They require SFTP. I've set my user name and password in the FTP details dialog, but I can't figure out what to put in the URL box. I tried sftp://sftp.dc2.gpaas.net/<path to pages>, and the dialog won't accept it: "URL must start with ftp://", but when I try "ftp://sftp.dc2.gpaas.net/<path>" it says it can't connect to the host. what am I doing wrong?

thanks for your help, and sorry for the stupid questions!

I'm thinking that WC does not yet support Sftp. But I don't 'think' all that often and I cud bee rong. However, here are some links to other threads (in no particular order) that may help:
You can try your hand by typing "sftp" (without the quotation marks, of course) in the Search text box.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Jim:

Definitely NOT a stupid question. No SFTP as per the links Xair provided, but WeatherCat will accomodate FTPS, if your service provider allows that. Mine does, but I am using a shared Linux service and my provider requires a dedicated Windows platform to enable FTPS. I don't need or desire to pay for dedicated hosting, so I am still uploading with good old FTP.

FTPS info. (Re: How do I get weather cat to do SFTP uploads?)

Dear Jim, X-Air, Blick, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Basically, you've been given all the key info already.  Nonetheless, if you are bold enough to open up the WeatherCat manual, there is a section on FTPS starting on page 179 of the current manual.  Perhaps that will help you to see if your web hosting provider also supports that secure FTP protocol.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

macOS may still be the problem. (Re: WeatherCat to do SFTP uploads?)

Dear Jean Fred and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

did WC support Sftp in the future ? hope yes my host need sftp
. . . .

Earlier in this thread X-Air kindly located some threads about SFTP which lay out the basic problem to date.

https://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=3274.msg31401#msg31401

WeatherCat uses a UNIX command line tool called curl to make the FTP transfers.  As of the last check, macOS didn't include an updated version of curl that supported SFTP.  That was a long time ago, but Apple doesn't seem to be anxious to update the UNIX tools.  The current version of curl supports SFTP and it is possible to update your copy on your Mac using MacPorts.  However, that is quite a hassle and most WeatherCat users won't be willing to go through that geeky process.  Stu has added SFTP support to the WeatherCat feature enhancement list, but there is no way of knowing when it will be implemented.

Sorry, but that is the status of WeatherCat SFTP support at the moment.
