You are correct Federico. The slider options for energy saving went away in OS X in either Mavericks or Yosemite. I have to use a third-party app to keep my iMac running El Capitan from sleeping.

Why third-party app? After Stu told me that WeatherCat was hanging because of sleep mode of Mac I've put a tick on first check-box in energy saving panel (Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off) and now I don't know if Mac goes sleeping but WeatherCat doesn't hang.... ;)

.......it seems that our two OS have different points of view on energy saving  :)

Ha! That's bizarre that Federico and I took exactly the same screen shot and posted them at the same minute in time! :D

Power Up
« Reply #32 on: April 07, 2016, 05:14:36 PM »
+1 Steve. Also, you may want to check the "Start up automatically after a power failure" incase the power blinks while you are away, the iMac will restart when power is restored and WXCat (in your login items) will boot again and you won't be out much of a gap on your website.

Dr. FrankenBuick helped me! (Re: Assertive wagons. )

Hi Federico and WeatherCat automotive enthusiasts,

Quote
Well, the car is 50 years old (51 in May,) but the engine is only a few months old and generates around 500 horsepower!

[woohoo] You created a monster! :D

Would you believe that when I got started on this project I got some advice from a fellow on one of the classic Buick forums who went by the handle of "Dr. FrankenBuick" ?

Yup, I ended up with a whole lot more powerful engine then I thought I was getting!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

That setting on my iMac definitely does not prevent my iMac from sleeping. I called AppleCare and stumped them. So I downloaded a free app called Caffeine and it solved the problem of my iMac falling asleep.

Color me confused???

Me too. Must have been too little sleep or too much mountain air. I don't know why I posted that. Colour me discombobulated.

Strange: My Energy Saver panel is different than Steve posted. I'm missing Computer Sleep slider, he miss "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" and Power NAP check-box....but we run the same OS 10.11.4!

But, Federico. Yours has the UPS flag at the top. Perhaps Computer sleep is under that.

In the UPS panel (if I click on the flag) there is a second slider to with off display after xx minutes of black out. Nothing about computer sleeping.
And Steve panel is still missing NAP and "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off"....but got a second slider for computer sleeping delay. It's not important since WeatherCat is running without hangs but it's strange since we have the same OS release.  ;)

Differences
« Reply #40 on: April 08, 2016, 07:53:02 PM »
I believe the difference is not in the OS, i.e. 10.11.4, but in the hardware that supports those features. Older models with older CPU's display difference behaviors within the same OS.

Agree with Pilot on the hardware configuration affecting System Preferences. But, 'no computer sleep' seems unfathomable. In other words, I don't get that either.
