Dueling data
« on: March 24, 2015, 03:35:54 AM »
During the day, my iMac went to sleep (a problem I have been trying to solve for a several weeks now). My data logger interval is set to 15 minutes. After I discovered the iMac was asleep, I woke it up. It was asleep for about 2 hours. My data logger interval is set to 15 minutes. During the time it was asleep, the Daily Statistics show that .13 inches of rain was recorded. Daily Statistics show Today's Daily Total Rain is .28 inches. The console shows Daily Rain to be .15 inches. Which one is likely to be correct, I ask myself?

I have a CoCoRaHS gauge that tells me today's rain is .31 inches. CoCoRaHS and Vantage are often off by a small amount but at least I now know that the higher number displayed in the WC Statistics window is correct and the console number is incorrect. I don't have an explanation for why the console number is wrong while the WC number is right, but I trust Stu more than I trust Davis so I want to fix the console.

I manually calibrate the Daily Rain on the console, by putting in the correct amount of rain for today, which also affects Monthly and Annual Rain on the console. After doing this, I see that my WC Statistics are increased by the amount of the calibration, which now makes them too high by the amount of the calibration.

I think - but do not know - that if I wait until tomorrow and then put the correct amount of rain into the Daily Rain Editor, that everything should once again align and the universe will be at peace until my iMac falls asleep again (another story for a different thread).

Am I on the right track here or am I missing something important, which would not surprise anyone, least of all me.

Yes, tomorrow you'll be able to put in a rain edit which will correct all the stats.

Why is your Mac going to sleep - it's changed a little bit in 10.10 - you need the 'Prevent Computer From Sleeping Automatically When The Display Is Off' tick-box ticked in the Energy Saver Prefs pane (I'm guessing you already know this :) ).

If you go to the Console.app, select 'Diagnostic and Usage Messages' then enter 'power' as the search term, it'll display all log entries to do with power related events - there may be something there that can help diagnose why.

??? Is this a UK function? 8) I don't have such a tick-box (or even a checkbox!) on my mini running 10.10.3. Nor the iMac running 10.10.2. Nor my wife's MBP (10.9.5). All have "Computer sleep:" set to "never". All have Display sleep at various times. All allow disks to sleep when possible. All have wake on network access. I have set the mini to start up after a power failure and have WC added to Start Up Items.

My wife would love to move to England, perhaps this could be another motivation? :P [cheer]

Energy saver depends on Mac model. (Re: Dueling data)

The energy saver preference pane will look differently depending on the Mac you are using.  For example, I have a MacBook Pro connected to a UPS.  So there are settings unique to a portable and of course the controls for the UPS.  It also varies by model.  This particular MacBook Pro has two graphics cards, so there is a special option to turn off switching between the graphics cards when you prefer to have the best quality graphics even if that costs you some in battery life.

;) . . . . But Stu isn't in England.  He is an Welsh living in Scotland!  [biggrin]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

She'll accept anywhere on the "big island"! I'll also accept that green one to their west... the biggest problem is learning their language(s)!
