WC with Davis Vantage Vue and DIY link
« on: September 19, 2013, 11:36:54 PM »
All,

I'm looking to upgrade to a Vantage Vue, but am less than enthused with buying the Weatherlink package ($150 for software I don't want/need, just so I can get the adapter). Turns out it's pretty easy to talk to the Vantage weatherlinks with a simple TTL adapter. My question is, is anyone doing this with WC, and are there issues?

Most of us have held our noses and swallowed the Davis price.  There are people who have tried to get around this purchase, but I don't know of anybody using WeatherCat.  You'll just have to see if someone indeed speaks up.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Thanks! So, then the question is, do you buy the mac weatherlink or the windows one? I don't care about the software, but I guess the driver expects a certain USB PID... which I can change with a windows box, but just curious. The price is the same where I'm looking.

nevermind, did a bit of reading, and just decided on the serial version, which I'll hook up via my keyspan.

Thanks!

Hi Staze

Have a look at wxforum.net

A few people were making and selling USB connectors for Davis stations, a couple have made wireless ones as well, lots of info in their Davis Instruments Hardware topic.

Hi Staze
Why would you get the serial type if your running a mac?
Get the USB for the Mac and do away with your keyspan and save your self some head aches down the road.
You can get the best price on it here:http://www.scientificsales.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=6520&e=Y

Thanks for the links! I just emailed Ambient Weather to get them to price match... we'll see.

Anyway, I got the serial because I've heard of a lot of headaches with the Silicon Labs driver vs the keyspan driver... My keyspan works great with my LaCrosse now, and I even have a spare. So, figured I'd just keep that.
