Trying to import some data? (Re: WeatherCatData.cat Template)

Hi Randall and WeatherCat data hounds,

I'm trying to create a template so I can get some data older than what I collected since using your weather software.

Sorry Randall, but I'm a little confused about what you are trying to do.  Do you have some additional weather data in some other file format that you would like to add to WeatherCat?

If you want to do that, I thought we had a data import guru on the board.  Can you tell us what the data looks like right now?

Please help us understand what you are trying to do here.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hi Edouard and Cat Fans

 I have 5 years of Weathertracker data files that I would like to add to WeatherCat. The template I made is for an entry every hour there is no importer to import WeatherTracker in to WeatherCat that I know of
There has been a request for it

Hiya Randall,
Yes, this has been done before - what you need to do is get a minimal data file for each month - one entry per hour should work, but two will be better (one with high data and one with low). The data units are centigrade for temperatures, millibars for pressure, kmh for wind speeds.

Your template has rich text formatting characters in it which isn't going to work - this is how it looks (when opened in Text Wrangler):
Code: [Select]
{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\cocoartf949\cocoasubrtf540
{\fonttbl\f0\fswiss\fcharset0 Helvetica;}
{\colortbl;\red255\green255\blue255;}
\margl1440\margr1440\vieww15260\viewh9260\viewkind0
\pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2160\tx2880\tx3600\tx4320\tx5040\tx5760\tx6480\tx7200\tx7920\tx8640\ql\qnatural\pardirnatural

\f0\fs24 \cf0 WC data file ***DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE***.\
t and V are not optional, all other fields are. \
t is the day, hour and minute (2 digits each), T is outside temperature, Ti is internal temperature, T1 to T8 is auxiliary temperatures, D is dew point, Pr is pressure, W is wind speed, \
D is wind direction, Wc is wind chill, Wg is wind gust, Ph is hourly precipitation, P is total precipitation,\
H is outside humidity, Hi is internal humidity, H1 to H7 are auxiliary humidity sensors, S is solar, \
Sm1 to Sm4 is soil moisture, Lw1 to Lw4 is leaf wetness, St1 to St4 is soil temperature,\
U is UV, C is current conditions (delimited by double quotes), V is validation.\
      00 t:010000 T: 0:00 Ti:00:00 D:0:00 Pr:0000.0000 W:00 Wd:00 Wc:0.00 Wg:0.00 Ph:0.00 P:0.00 H:00 Hi:00 S:0 U:0.0 C:"CLR" V:4\

The files need to be plain text.

Hope this helps,
Stu.

Hi Randall,
The Pr field needs to be in millibars (to 4 decimal places). It should be OK to just put in the high and low pressure for each hour - so for example on the hour have the high pressure, and on the half hour have the low pressure (and the same for other data). The rain might be more tricky - the P field is the one you want for cumulative rain (Ph is is the rain rate) - you'll need incrementing amounts throughout each day or a constant value if there's no rain (take a look at one of your existing files to see how the rain progresses on a day with rain). Alternatively it might be easier to put a rain edit in for a day in the month using the daily rain editor.

Hi Randall,
Try doing the December 2007 data file first and working your way back in time from there. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the low pressure - can you post up a sample of your data file so I can take a look?

Hi Stu
 Here is a shot of my statistics where it won't take the low pressure readings no matter what i try

Ok, that means it's either reading or using zeros for the pressure somewhere in the January and February data files for 2008. Putting more samples in the file might help - at least one per hour.
