local client not connecting
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:56:26 AM »
Hi all,
Just purchased WeatherCat and it runs great from the start. Wunderground setup was very easy and works great also. I am having problems getting my iOS client to connect locally as well as my laptop (powerpc G4). The client onboard the imac that runs WeatherCat connects immediately. Probably a setting somewhere on my host machine but I'm not sure where to look. WeatherCat preferences have server enabled.
Love the program so far. Trying to setup an internet connection will be my next task.
Thanks for the help in advance.

On a local network, Bonjour is used to find the server. As neither client is working, it's a good bet the problem is with Bonjour. Check with your router documentation to see if there's anything there that may be blocking bounjour - sometimes there is and it's been enabled by mistake. Also check the firewall on the Mac running WeatherCat, just to make sure there's nothing there blocking the connections.

Thanks for the reply. I shut down the firewall and that didn't change anything. I've looked into the Bonjour issue and it appears there is a problem with my router (D'link Dir-655) and bonjour. There are workarounds but it's not a priority at this point. Would love to have my station on my iphone though.
Thanks again.

Hi

I see on your first post you are sending data to Wunderground, they have a free iPhone app that lets you access most of the real time data from your station that you are sending to them on your phone.

it does not give access to historical data, but it's useful if away from home and you just want to see what temp, rainfall etc is.

Thanks, I've decided that wunderground is the best way to go at this point. Sure would like to get the app working thought. Put it on the list.
