iMac upgrade Thunderbolt
« on: Yesterday at 06:43:23 PM »
Hi long time Weathercat user.

This year I will need to finally get a new iMac as my 2015 iMac is slowly grinding to a halt.

If I get a new iMac will Weathercat work if I get a USB to USBC adapter to connect my David Vantage Pro 1?

Also will the latest MAC OS software run OK ?

Thanks for any replies.

Should be okay. (Re: iMac upgrade Thunderbolt)

Dear faymondo and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

I don't know about the latest Macs but I thought most still had at least 1 USB 2.0 port.  I just used a USB 2.0 hub with 12 connection points.  My Davis Vantage Pro-2 is happy with that.  If you have a Vantage Pro-1, you have (I assume) a serial to USB dongle.  That should work just as well.

If needed, Thunderbolt (USB-C) to USB 2.0 adapters are common and not very expensive.

Also will the latest MAC OS software run OK ?

We had replies on WXForum confirming that WeatherCat was running fine on MacOS 26.0 (Tahoe)

Hopefully that will aide you in deciding what upgrade to make.
