Satellite Images Store On External Drive?
« on: November 13, 2024, 06:26:44 PM »
I was checking to see if the satellite images that are stored on the local drive, library folder can be changed to be stored on an external drive since they take up significant space over time.  We enjoy keeping the images for historical purposes and would like to still view them in Weather Cat.  Thank you

Dear MHL and WeatherCat tinkerers,

Since this is your first posting let me welcome you to the WeatherCat forum!

WeatherCat doesn't have any facility for moving where these images are stored.  However, you could take advantage of MacOS feature called symbolic links.  Here is an article describing how it works:

https://www.howtogeek.com/297721/how-to-create-and-use-symbolic-links-aka-symlinks-on-a-mac/

As pointed out, you would need to make a terminal command that would look something like this:

ln -s ~/Library/WeatherCatData/Imagery "your destination folder for these files" . . . . .

If this seems a bit too geeky for you, please reply and we will attempt to clarify further as needed.

Edouard

Thank you Edouard, I was unaware of this and I'll give it try.  Really appreciate it.  Brad
