USB Data logger problem
« on: November 06, 2024, 10:52:03 AM »
Hi
I've done some searching, tried some suggestions that I have found but unfortunately not a solution yet.
I recently updated Homeassistant (not related to weathercat I hope!) and also updated Weathercat to the latest version (Probably a mistake doing two updates at the same time!!, but the old girl iMac 27" running Catalina 10.15.7 is slow to boot so FOOLISHLY thought I would be saving time).
Anyway, after update weathercat wasn't getting data from the USB data logger attached to my Davis Vantage Pro2 station, it appeared that station comms were interrupted, on selecting configure station comms options I don't see /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART as a dropdown option I have Bluetooth-Incoming-Port (see photo). so then following other suggestions I was looking to see which version of Silicon labs drivers I had I'm unable to confirm what I have or what I should have.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Latest driver? (Re: USB Data logger problem)

Dear coveredinoil and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Sorry to hear that are having problems connecting to your Davis station.  A good first thing to check is if you are running the latest Silicon Labs driver.

You can download the drivers at this web page:

https://www.silabs.com/developer-tools/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads

See if installing the latest drivers solves your problem.  Let us know the results.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried the latest driver (6.0.2)(twice) same result.
But it did get me thinking about what driver I had originally used, so then had a bit of a dig around in my Time Machine backups and found the original driver (5.0.8) I used back in 2019, it took an age to install (sat at tidying cache) so thought had failed, but hay presto the USB to UART drop-down was back and weathercat is working again  [snow]

Congratulations!  [tup]  I am a big fan of the way Time Machine works precisely for this sort of situation.  These days local storage is cheap and you never know what old file could be needed once more.  Unlike hoarding stuff in the real world, having a hoarding instinct in the virtual world need not make mess of your place and could get you out of a real jam!

Congrats once more!

I love it when a WeatherCatter finds a solution. Congratulations.
