WeatherCatData.cat.hrs
« on: October 19, 2024, 07:09:03 AM »
Does anybody know what values in what columns are? The normal .cat file is human friendly readable because of its explanation in the header lines, but not so the .hrs file. So, can anybody shed some light on this? Thanks in advance,
Reinhard

Reinhard:

I don't know much about the .hrs files, but I know a little, just enough to be dangerous. They are index files created from the .cat files. They should not be edited. If you edit one of the .cat files, you need to delete the corresponding .hrs file. WeatherCat will then recreate the .hrs file when you restart it. If any of this is incorrect, Edouard will enlighten us when he logs in.

By the way, we just received our first snow of the season, 18 cm.

Dear Reinhard, Blick, and WeatherCat tinkerers,

Unfortunately, Stu has never told us what is WeatherCatData.cat.hrs file other than it is some sort of a indexing record.  You are in unknown territory.

I don't know whether to wish you luck or urge you to be cautious!!

Oh well, . . . Edouard

Oh my god - I completely forget about the genious data export option within WeatherCat. No need to laborious extract data from the .ct and .cat.hrs files.  8)  Thread can be closed by an admin if wished so. Thanks again, folks!  [tup]

Spoke a little bit too soon. What I am looking for is the SunshineHours - where are they stored? Really can't imagine that WC computes this value every quarter of an hour for the whole bunch of data since 2009... so they have to be stored somewhere in the .cat.hrs file, where else? Who can shed a bit light on this one? All inputs much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Probably computed - not stored. (Re: WeatherCatData.cat.hrs)

I double-checked and WeatherCat simply doesn't store that data.  It doesn't have to.

I think WeatherCat computes the sunrise and sunset assuming ideal horizons and then computes the difference.  Here is a Wikipedia article on how to compute the sunrise ans sunset:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunrise_equation

Sorry about the math, but sometimes that is the only way to get what you are after.

Thanks for replying, Edouard. WC computes the sunshine hours from the solar sensor, because otherwise I would have sunshine the whole day. But when I have a very cloudy day I have only one ore two or at least zero sunshine. So this values must be hidden in the depth of the .hrs file.  :)

Unfortunately I just can't remember for sure, but I thought WeatherCat displayed number of sunshine hours even if you don't have a solar radiation sensor.  Alas, I have had one for so long that I've forgotten!

The WeatherCat manual doesn't indicate that you need to have a solar radiation sensor in order to get the number of sunshine hours for whatever that's worth.  Look at pages 103, 105, 209, and 212 of the current manual.

Can anyone without a solar radiation sensor comment on whether or not WeatherCat can display the number of sunshine hours anyway?

Edouard

A few years ago, I asked Stu to give us the ability to access Sunshine Hours and he put it on his list of future upgrades. Apparently, we have not yet reached the future.  :D
