Data Logger not updating after upgrade tp Sonoma
« on: December 22, 2023, 02:52:28 PM »
I've just updated to an M3 Mac Silicon but can't get Weathercat to update. I'm using the Data Logger USB connection to the Mac from my Davis Vantage Pro 2, and I've tried re-installing the USBUart Driver and had a message saying it is installed although I'm not sure how I can check. I think I'm using the latest version of Weathercat (3.2.0).
Weathercat installs on the Mac and I can see the gauges etc I have set up, but they never update.
Any help gratefully received!

Dear JohnS and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

There are two things you can look at to at least get some idea of what is the condition of WeatherCat.  First, check the WeatherCat Status window.  If it is reporting "Comms Errors" then indeed WeatherCat is unable to communicate with your console.  Second, take a look at the WeatherCat log (under the Tools menu).  The messages there should give you some idea of problem.

Let us know what you discover.

Hi Edouard - the status is "waiting for weather data". On the log everything shows as loading OK but there are regular entries from all the sensors saying (for example) "pressure not ready" and similar entries for all the sensors I have - so I think the data logger is not connecting to Weathercat since the upgrade to Sonoma.

Quick update - I can't find the Silicon Labs driver on the Mac and when I try again to download it from the Silicon Labs website all I get is a text file, not the DMG file.

Managed to sort it out, so in case anyone else reads this and needs a few tips this is what happened. I did use the Apple migration tool and just about everything moved to the new computer, but not the Silicon Labs driver.
Initially every time I tried to download the latest driver I just downloaded a text file - eventually I read something that said right click on the S Labs link, and that downloaded a driver zip file.
At this point, make sure the data logger is not connected to the computer - that stopped the installation in my case.
After opening the zip file and moving the dmg file to the desktop I could click on the dmg file and installation started.
Then Sonoma paused the installation and would not allow an extension to be loaded. There was a prompt telling me this and linking to the Privacy area in settings - unfortunately it didn't take me to just the right spot but after a bit of experimenting I found - in the extensions menu - a line that said the Silabs extension had been blocked and an "allow" button - after clicking that it all went smoothly and everything works properly. The previous Weathercat data had migrated to the new computer, the data logger updated Weathercat with the last few days so nothing lost.
Hope it helps somebody.

So happy you got this fixed, despite Apple’s “help”! I’m going to bookmark this for future reference. So another big “THANKS” for posting the solution!
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

I love it when a WeatherCatter figures something out. Well done, and thanks for letting us know how you solved it. I've never dared use Migration Assistant to move the WC stuff. Rather, I've followed the instructions in the WC Wiki. Paranoid, I believe, is what that is called.
