I have some question about the change from my current station (Vantage Pro 2 cabled, from 2005) to a new Pro2 wireless (6163EU)and the connection to Weathercat.
Target is, if possible, to proceed the new one with the existing data of the old one in Weathercat.
The  old one runs perfect with the now not longer existing Mac USB data-logger (with Silicon Labs USB to-serial bridge driver, the version from 2019), under WeatherCat 3.1.3, OS Catalina (10.15.7)

What is the best procedure to connect the new wireless? A new data-logger is in (6510USB). Do i need a new version of the serial bridge driver?
Is it necessary to configure the station new as i read in the Wiki ("Configure Comms & Exit”)?
Or is there a way to “simulate” Weathercat the new station is the old one?

Thanks for your help!

I am also running Catalina (10.15.7), but I am using WC 3.20 (Build 320[3.2.0]) which I think is the latest ßeta. I am also using SiLabsUSBDriver 5.3.5 (2/25/20). You might try downloading/installing that one. Actually, I see that I don't have the latest version which is 6.0.2. CP210x VCP Mac OSX Driver Hope that helps.

NOTE: Silabs uses a "Pop-up" window method for their downloads. I had my Safari "Websites->Pop-up Windows" setting for silabs.com set to "Block and Notify". However, the "Notification" was so fast that it took several iterations before my 79 yo eyes could see it! [rolleyes2] I was using my personal computer running Big Sur, your experience may be different in Catalina. :)

Dear Monochrome and WeatherCat Davis owners,

I am a bit confused by your question.  Are you simply upgrading your weather station but continuing to use the same Macintosh computer?  In that case, you should be able to simply assemble the new hardware and connect it to your Mac.  As X-Air suggests, it would be prudent to upgrade to the latest Silicon Labs driver.  Instructions on how to do this can be found on the WeatherCat Wiki:

https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Obtaining_the_latest_drivers_for_use_with_Davis_data_loggers

Beyond the driver upgrade, no configuration changes should be necessary.  If you are simply running the new station hardware on an existing WeatherCat installation, WeatherCat will simply pick up with the new station where it left off from the old station.  You will lose some data during the transition, so you might want to plan to keep that disruption to a minimum.

Am I understanding the situation correctly?  If not, please explain more of what you are trying to do so we can be of more help.

Cheers, Edouard

Dear elagache,

i am from Austria, my english is not that good to avoid misunderstanding;-)

Yes, i simply wish to upgrade the station. The system is working perfect on the Mac until now.
The question in short words (as someone who only has few experience with WeatherCat because the first installation in 2013 was easy an worked) was: is there any need to change something in the current setup (beside the possible update of the SilLabs Driver)? And if, what is the best way?
Because my fear was the existing weather data might not proceed with the new station, if i make the wrong step.....

Therefore your answer sounds great! Left the old one, pick up the new one (quick, because of losing data in that period) and it should work. Probably with the update of the SilLabs Driver.
Do you have any idea if it can work with my current version of the Driver? Don't know exactly which it is (where can i find that on the Mac?), i only know the last update was from Spring 2019. Should i simply try that before update? Or could this cause some troubles with WeatherCat which i can't revoke?

@ xairbusdriver: also thank you for your answer and your note! Don´t know if my old eyes see better...;-)

Don't know exactly which [CP210x VCP Mac OSX Driver] it is. where can i find that on the Mac?
Two ways to find out which one you are using:
1. Option-Click the black Apple icon in the extreme, left-hand edge of the upper menu. Choose "System Information..." (image #1 below)
2. Click the black Apple icon in the extreme, left-hand edge of the upper menu. In the Overview tab, click the System Report...". (image #2 below)

In either case, scroll the left-hand list of items, looking for "Extensions" (image #3 below)

The large text block has all the info on the extension. The "Yes" in the "Loaded" column shows if it is being used. Hope that helps.

I would suggest getting your new set up running first. If it runs, great! If not, download and install the new CP210x VCP Mac OSX driver. Either way, please post your progress or any other questions. ThU32:-)

By the way, my English is only a bit better than yours! [lol]

xairbusdriver,
thanks a lot, some deep memories of MacOS are coming back after your pictures....;-)

Now i know it is SilLabs 5.2.3 i'm currently using.

Before trying i still have to wait for the arrival of the new station. I will post my progress for sure, hopefully screaming a loud "YES" before writing;-)

Dear monochrome, X-Air, and WeatherCat station caregivers,

Okay, I now seem to understand your upgrade correctly, and indeed, about the only change you might want to make is upgrading your Silicon Labs driver.

Best of luck in making the station upgrade, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any additional questions.

Cheers, Edouard

Dear elagache and xairbusdriver,

The new Vantage is here and installed and.....
all the worries were unfounded!

I unplugged the old one, plugged the new one, no changes were made (neither on the Mac nor an upgrade to the latest SilLabs Driver) and..... it instantly works! [bounce]  [cheers1]
Station is running, WeatherCat is working, and i am fine ThU5:-)

Thanks a lot for your help, guys! Never thought this could be that easy....

I love it when things just work for a WeatherCatter. Congratulations on your new, upgraded kit.
