Download history download fails to start
« on: January 14, 2023, 07:01:40 PM »
Running MacOS Monterey v12.6.2 and WeatherCat 3.1.3 build 155 for a WH 3080 (Solar/UV) station. I've run previous versions successfully in the past but it's been about a year since I downloaded data. Everything has been updated since and as a result, when I plug my weather station in, it doesn't automatically download the history from the console. I've done all the usual re-boots, comms config etc but still nothing. Any suggestions please?

Dear nzbayleys and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Running MacOS Monterey v12.6.2 and WeatherCat 3.1.3 build 155 for a WH 3080 (Solar/UV) station. I've run previous versions successfully in the past but it's been about a year since I downloaded data. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.  Your comments are a bit vague so I'm not sure what you have already tried.  We have a page of troubleshooting hints on the Fine Offset stations:

https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=Fine_Offset

Looking at that page, I see that you need to select the correct model manually.  Is that what you mean by configuring communications?  If you don't select the WH3080, that might prevent the download.

Did you reboot your Macintosh or the console or both?  The wiki article indicates that you must wait 10 minutes before powering up the console again - did you wait that long?

The last possibility is that you didn't wait long enough for WeatherCat to download all the data.  You might need to disable the watchdog process as described at the bottom of the wiki article.

Let us know if any of these suggestions help resolve your problem.

Cheers, Edouard

Hi Edouard,

Thanks for you quick response. I've done the 10 minute re-set on my Aercus model WH3080 and re-set the time and pressure. The data that was logged over the past few weeks has remained in the memory.  I've also done a full shut down and re-start on my laptop. I've checked that the correct hardware is selected in WeatherCat. When I launch, I'd expect to see the data download start reasonably soon afterwards. I'm not getting the download but I am getting the live data come through on the WeatherCat Controller. The watchdog is also turned off but that makes no difference.

Anything else you think I can try?

Cheers

Shane

Two thoughts. (Re: Download history download fails to start)

Dear Shane and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Thanks for you quick response. I've done the 10 minute re-set on my Aercus model WH3080 and re-set the time and pressure. The data that was logged over the past few weeks has remained in the memory.  I've also done a full shut down and re-start on my laptop. Unfortunately, we don't have any WH3080 users who are very active on the board so there isn't much expertise for you to tap into.  I only have two suggestions.

Can you double-check if the console in fact has data to upload using the console?  These are inexpensive stations and won't last forever.

Alternatively, can you see if WeatherCat is operating as if it had downloaded the data in question?  If the database is populated, even with bad data, WeatherCat would make no attempt to download anything new.  Take a look a this folder on your Mac:

~/Library/WeatherCatData/Location1/2022

The ~ refers to your home folder and the path is in UNIX convention.  In that folder you should find files with names like: 12_WeatherCatData.cat.  Those are text files that you can look at with TextEdit  The data is in lines - one line per day of the month.  Be careful not to change the files, but that would allow you to see if somehow WeatherCat has populated its databases and therefore isn't attempting to download the data from your station.

Sorry, that's the best I can come up with at the moment.
