Backup archive of WeatherCat preferences file
« on: October 04, 2022, 05:20:52 AM »
I have read several posts in the forum where a corrupted preferences file (com.trixology.weathercat.plist) was the apparent cause of an issue. I haven’t run into this issue but I decided it would be a good idea to prepare for it.

I decided the best way was to setup a weekly backup archive of the preferences file. I wanted to keep each week’s backup by adding a date stamp to the name. In the event of a big mistake I couldn’t correct or a corrupted file, I’ll have multiple backups to quickly choose from to recover the preferences file.

I use the excellent backup program Carbon Copy Cloner, if you are not familiar with it then I highly recommend you check it out. It can do simple file or folder backups or complete system backups. I ditched Time Machine a long time ago in favor of Carbon Copy Cloner. It is many times faster in backups and restores, and where Time Machine has failed on me, Carbon Copy Cloner never has.

Carbon Copy Cloner is available here: https://bombich.com/

Attached below are the instructions for creating the backups.

Use of this procedure is at your own risk, I make no guarantees and am not responsible for any data loss.

Thank you for sharing. I have used CCC for years, in addition to Time Machine, and agree with your endorsement. As to being able to access a clean copy of your com.trixology.weathercat.plist file, I completely agree. It's a lot more fun to have replacement file than to rebuild it from scratch.
