so ....  I just discovered this app and it's really cool but ........  how do I set it up to get the data over cellular when I'm not connected to my home WiFi?  I created a network in the settings using my home IP address and it works great until I'm no longer connected to WiFi.

That's why the web is so handy. I am amazed at how few WC'ers have even a simple, text-based web site to constantly show updated WC data. WiFi/Ethernet at home, of course. But ~98.7%* of the country has cellular data coverage. WC has created an incredible app for collecting, collating, summarizing, graphing our personal weather data and it can quite easily display that on a purpose-built wed site. I hear that the "web" is available even on the Space Station!

When you are no longer connected to WiFi, you are outside the "Local" network. Even though you are using an IP address, the router is blocking the request.

To connect to WeatherCat from outside the local network, your router needs to be set up for port forwarding, otherwise the router will block the incoming request for WeatherCat data. The WeatherCat Clients section of the WeatherCat Wiki https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=WeatherCat_Clients has information on how to do this.

Thanks for the reply.  The Wiki for Netgear was last updated in 2012 so I'm not sure how accurate it is.  I hope you can answer a couple of questions for me.

I have a Netgear ORBI router.  I found the section for port forwarding and it's asking for external and internal port range.  Do you know what range I should enter?

Assuming I'm able to configure Netgear what server should I use in the WeatherCatRCP app?  The default choices are local network, trixology-eng.com and one I added with my computer's IP address.

Again, assuming I can get this set up so that my phone can access the app when on cellular, will I need to change the server choice to make this happen?

Use ports 49250 to 49255. The original port range was 49250 to 49254. 49255 was added for WeatherCat 3 and is required for RCP.
Also make sure the server ip address in the port forward is the local IP address (usually 192.168.1.x) for the computer running WeatherCat.

Once you set up the port forwarding, use the public IP address for the server setting. You will not need to change the server setting when you change between local and cellular.

Make sure you have a static IP address or use a dynamic domain name service.
