Dear WeatherCat system administrators,
I am finally close to concluding my migration away from GoDaddy. I hope to share the unsavory tale when I can spare the time. My next to last task was to get WeatherCat to use my new hosting provider's email. I ran into a problem similar to what a number of WeatherCat users were struggling with. I could get my email client (Postbox) to connect to the new service, but WeatherCat didn't work. With a little help from our very own Grand Poobah, I discovered that the instructions I had received for configuring my email were, at the very least, out of date. The instructions suggested using port 465. As it turns out there is this blog posting that straightens the issue out:
https://www.sparkpost.com/blog/what-smtp-port/The industry standard port for authenticated SMTP email should be 587.
I'm curious if this has anything to do with the problems other WeatherCat users have been having. Could you please answer the poll, and if you are using a port not listed, please reply on this thread with whatever information you can provide us.
Thanks in advance for advancing our communal knowledge!
Edouard
