Webcam crash and then a fix
« on: July 16, 2022, 10:29:54 AM »
Hi all,
I tried to connect a Logitech Brio to my new Mac Studio, and then chose that camera as the webcam in WeatherCat. When applied, it immediately caused a crash of WeatherCat that I could not recover from - the program would not run and the error file warned about a setting in the plist that was “insecure”.
Using Time Machine, I went back a couple of hours and found the file at:
 ~(username)->Library->Preferences->com.trixology.weathercat.plist
I copied that file, erased the old file and then pasted the copied file back into the current Preference. When I restarted WeatherCat it worked perfectly.
This is the second issue with the Mac Studio and the Brio, the other issue that using a Brio as a Zoom camera, it causes audio looping and frame freezing.
Essentially, I’m thinking don’t use that webcam!
Cheers,
Bill

Thanks for the info, Bill. It's getting harder to find a plain old school webcam that just does the simple stuff you need. Webcams have all migrated to the security camera genre.

Thanks Bill. I had a similar problem, but my crash happened as soon as I ticked the "Web-Cam Enabled", without even selecting the type of camera.

The crash was instantaneous and catastrophic. As you found, I could not restart Weather Cat. Your post pointed me to the plist file, which I deleted (not having a Time Machine backup), then restarted Weather Cat and restored from backup.

Cheers,

Kit
