Dear drewaz and WeatherCat troubleshooters,
THANKS as always elagache. you are a savior around here!
You are welcome for past assistance. However, I'm not sure what is going on in this case.
as I mentioned in my post, I did try port 465 and the authentication box is checked.
That is definitely a disturbing result since that contradicts the Cox documentation.
the email I am using is my primary Cox email, I have used it for many years and it works outside of WC despite the fact that Cox no longer offers email accounts. Luckily (for me) they have allowed customers to keep their legacy email accounts. The password provided is the correct one for this email account.
So how to you retrieve your general emails from this account? Do you use an email client or a web interface?
the 'failed' message occurs immediately after hitting the test button ... I don't think there would even be time to attempt to connect with the Cox server. I'm not great at IT issues but it seems to me there is something misbehaving between WC and Monterey (and possibly an M1 Mac) but who knows.
Unfortunately, it is really impossible to tell from that observation alone. I assume your ISP is also Cox, so the mail server could be rapidly accessible on their own network. However, there could be other issues like some sort of firewall restriction that is preventing connections on port 465.
Do you have any idea when this problem started? Could it date back all the way to your upgrade to the M1 Mac?
The only other thought that comes to mind is how did you replace the WeatherCat preference file? Is there any chance you replaced it with what was unfortunately another corrupted preference file? If you have a Time Machine backup, could you replace the file with a very old preference file? I'm wondering if you could restore the preference file from before you upgraded your Mac.
Sorry, I don't see any obvious cause to this mystery. Anyone else has something to suggest?
