General Big Sur Info/experience
« on: November 10, 2020, 11:00:10 PM »
I know we have a "WeatherCat and Mac OS 11 Big Sur" thread. Perhaps we can have a more generalized thread? If not needed, the Admin's (or the WC Dev) are certainly free to add this to that other thread or simply delete this one. I find this developer to be an expert on how to deal with OS updates in general and in the making of bootable backups in particular.

Here are some recent thoughts by Mike Bombich:
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

More old news, or at least the same behavior of practically every recent new Mac OS:
From AppleInsider:
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Good news from CCC Dev...
... and an important reminder.
Quote
We need to share our concerns productively with Apple
It's easy to complain about how things don't work the way they used to (go ahead and get me started on Big Sur's new alert dialogs and progress indicators!). Rather than complaining, or giving up, though, we need to make it clear to Apple that we want these solutions, and we need to make it clear when they don't work. We can do that with bug reports, and to that end, we've been very transparent about our bug reports to Apple on issues within macOS that affect CCC, e.g.:
[Three links to descriptions of recent problems:]
  • macOS Big Sur Known Issues
  • macOS Catalina Known Issues
  • Known issues with Apple Software Restore

And, last but not least: Best practices for updating your Mac's OS
