Problems installing Weather Cat.
« on: October 19, 2020, 08:23:57 PM »
I'm using a Mac running Catalina 10.15.7, and WeatherLink won't run on it as I'm sure most of you know. I'm using Weather Tracker right now, which seems to be working OK, but I would like to try WeatherCat. I downloaded the software and went through the install process and it looks like it installed and is reading the data from the console, but it only shows up on the tool bar at the bottom; I can't open it up and access it on the desktop. Any help appreciated.

Thanks; Steve

Are you saying that Command Tab does not show you a list of icons of the running apps? ???

Does the WC icon in the Dock have a small dot below it?
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

The Icon does not show up anywhere, not on the desktop or in launch pad; the only place it shows up is in the tool bar at the bottom. I know it's installed and reading the data because it flashes each parameter briefly before moving to the next. Nothing happens when I click on it.

I guess what I should say is that it's installed, but I have to go back to the original file I downloaded to start it, and then there isn't a console I can work from. I have to do everything from the menu at the top. Very confusing.

Dear Steve, X-Air, and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

. . . .
I downloaded the software and went through the install process and it looks like it installed and is reading the data from the console, but it only shows up on the tool bar at the bottom; I can't open it up and access it on the desktop. Any help appreciated.
. . . .

Okay, this is the first time I've ever heard of problem like this.  As a first check make sure that all windows have been brought to the foreground.

I have to do everything from the menu at the top. . . . .

Under the WeatherCat pulldown menu should be three items:

Hide WeatherCat
Hide Others
Show All

If instead it reads:

Show WeatherCat
Hide Others
Show All

Try selecting Show WeatherCat and see if that solves your problem.  Most likely the menus are unresponsive, but if this works - it is by far the simplest remedy.

Assuming Plan-A fails, there is not much to go on, but my first guess is that somehow you have a corrupted preference file.  Try completely uninstalling WeatherCat - including all preference files.  First you'll need to make WeatherCat quit.  You might be able to "right-click" and select Quit from the icon, but that might also be unresponsive.  In that case you'll need to force-quit WeatherCat.  Apple has instructions on how to do this on their website:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201276

Once WeatherCat is no longer running, you can delete all the files.  The instructions are in the WeatherCat manual that is online:

https://data.trixology.com/downloads/WeatherCatUserManual.pdf

The information you are looking for is Appendix-6 or page 218 of the current manual.  Once you have deleted all those files, try installing WeatherCat once more.  Hopefully, that will get you unstuck.

Please do let us know either way.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Exactly where did you install WC? Please show the path to it? For example: HD/Applications/...?
