WxUnderground: Uploading/Downloading
« on: May 05, 2016, 05:11:28 PM »
For five long months I've tried to help WU fix my Current Conditions page and I've decided it isn't going to be fixed. I really like having data at WU for API use via apps and other uses, so I'd like to delete my current PWS account/station and start a new one. The only issue is preserving data.

$ I have roughly six months worth of data at WU that captured massive amounts of Texas rain last year prior to me getting WxCat.
$ I have another six months worth of data that is duplicated at WU and with WxCat.

How do you guys recommend me going about this correctly, to download the WU data that is there prior to my having WxCat data, and then uploading that data and my WxCat data up to the new PWS account? Has anyone ever done this and is it possible? Thanks.

dfw

P.S. I looked at the download link pictured below, but it gives me a table in HTML that looks scary to try and import. Is that how it is done?

Try saving as text file. (Re: WxUnderground: Uploading/Downloading)

Dear dfw and WeatherCat infomaniacs, . . . .

I really like having data at WU for API use via apps and other uses, so I'd like to delete my current PWS account/station and start a new one. The only issue is preserving data.

At least in Firefox, there is an option to save the page as a text file instead of an HTML file.  When you do that, you get data that is comma delimited.  You might have to massage that file, but that should be something that Weather Underground should be able to accept in one form or another.  Check to see what Weather Underground accepts as input formats for historical data.  If they don't accept their own format, I suspect you could import the data into Excel and use that to create a file that Weather Underground will swallow.

Let us know what you come up with.  This problem may come back so we might as well find out what is a viable solution.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Dear dfw and WeatherCat data upload caregivers,

After five long months, WU got it fixed! Now, let's see how long it lasts . . .

Sorry it was such a struggle, but at least Weather Underground fixed the problems so you didn't have to.  We'll just have to see what happens to Weather Underground.  It was better to have them bought than to have them go waste (which they seemed to be doing,) but so far the Weather Channel doesn't seem to have much interesting in taking care of us personal weather station owners.

Oh well, . . . . Edouard

Fantastic! I was beginning to lose faith in IBM and The Weather Channel. Congratulations! On a job well suffered through.
