Calculate weekly E/T?
« on: December 12, 2015, 07:32:26 AM »
Could someone tell me how to get a graph, or better yet, a gauge to show me a rolling 7-day cumulative E/T value? My Davis station calculates E/T in Day/Mo/YR but as a lawn guy in Texas, I'd like to have an easy readout on when it's time to re-water the grass when aiming for one inch per week in the summer. I have a soil station for more accurate readings of the soil moisture, but I'd like the rolling E/T value as a sanity/quality check. Thanks.

Synthetic channel custom gauge or graph. Or use the calculated value in your own output.

Here's a graph setup under custom graphs. I have mine set to show daily ET over a month''s time, and a year's time. Take a look at my soil data tab on my web site.

Steve

[EDIT] Oops, I didn't read very thoroughly. You want a rolling weekly cumulative graph. I don't know how to generate that. Sorry for the confusion.

WC ET Reporter computes that. (Re: Calculate weekly E/T?)

Dear dfw_pilot, Felix, Steve, and WeatherCat lawn caregivers, . . .

Could someone tell me how to get a graph, or better yet, a gauge to show me a rolling 7-day cumulative E/T value?

It is probably more hassle than you want to deal with but my WC ET Reporter AppleScript computes daily and 7 day evapotranspiration values.  It can even store them in a spreadsheet friendly format for easy data analysis.  Here is the link to them:

Alas, they have never been easy to use and they now suffer from extreme neglect.

Still, . . . . FYI . . .

Cheers, Edouard

Edouard, thanks, I looked at those, but would rather use what the Davis is already calculating for better numbers and less hassle.

Steve, [I love the website by the way. I wish there was still access to that elusive "atkinson family theme" for us newbies, the one you've made look so good] yeah, I'd love to figure out a way to have a rolling total over, say, 7-10 days, so I know when it's time to water my Bermuda grass again. I could add up the totals, but hey, this is WxCat, so I know there has to be a way! If anyone figures out specifically how to add a weekly cumulative graph, please post how to do so here. A gauge would be even nicer looking, don't you think? Thanks.

Probably neither here nor there but . . . (Re: Thanks)

Dear dfw_pilot and WeatherCat lawn caregivers,

Alas, it doesn't eliminate the hassle factor at all, but the WC ET Reporter uses the Davis ET calculation if you own a Davis station and configure the script to do that.  I wrote the script to send me emails about daily and 7-day ET values, so it doing something close do what you want.

Unfortunately, nobody has installed these scripts in years.  That may well be your undoing.

I dowloaded the scripts and got this message upon opening the WC ET Reporter:

I am still hoping that there is something I am missing to get gauges to report non-standard totals. I'll keep trying!

You'll need to "make" your own. (Re: Error)

Dear dfw_pilot and WeatherCat script fans,

I dowloaded the scripts and got this message upon opening the WC ET Reporter:

Unfortunately, the message is misleading.  The script isn't damaged, but Apple's gatekeeper doesn't recognize it because it dates back to OS 10.6.  You need to follow the instructions that come with the script.  In addition, you'll need to "create your own" application from the script bundle that I've attached to this posting.  Open the script with the Script Editor that comes with OS X, Duplicate it (for perverse reasons of how OS X handles files,) and then Save the duplicate.  Before pressing save, change the type of file from Script bundle to Application.  After you do that, it should run fine.

Nonetheless, it still must be run in the folder:

~/Applications/WeatherCat Scripts

Along with all the support files as noted in the documentation.  Sorry, it is a pedantic process, but that's the only way these AppleScript can work right now.

I am still hoping that there is something I am missing to get gauges to report non-standard totals. I'll keep trying!

I don't think there is any way to get the information you want from the gauges.  The closest you could get would be to use synthetic channels but that requires a significant knowledge of AppleScript because you want to store a value.

Sorry, what you want is simple, but Davis didn't think weekly ET was desirable for some reason.  It is odd, I would expect farmers would need weekly as well as daily and monthly.

Oh well, . . . . Edouard
