Moving from WeatherLink IP on Windows to Mac - Shout out to DRPAXIS -

I'm finally decided to use WC and move my WeatherLink IP setup from a hated windows computer to my Mac. The first requirement was to find the ip address of the WeatherLink. That proved to be a stumbling block for me. Here is why folks should take advantage of the archives.

Back on May 25, 2013, drpaxis mentioned having issues doing the same move I am until he found LanScan in the App Store (http://athena.trixology.com/index.php?topic=329.msg7928#msg7928). Off to the App Store I went and 2 minutes later I'm happily using WC to gather data from my Vantage Pro2+! Even better, LanScan is now free and immediately provided me the ip address of the station. Many thanks to drpaxis for the tip! Should we ever meet, I owe you a beverage of your choice!

Going straight to the archives rapidly gave me the answer I needed without having to wait for someone to kindly respond. It won't always be this easy but it sure just made my day!

Now to figure out the webpage stuff...

Dear John and WeatherCat network admins, . . .

It has been years since I've been really up on IP troubleshooting, but fortunately IP scanners are relatively easy to use.  I have 2 devices that predate Bonjour, so I do need to hunt them down on our household LAN from time to time.  Our fearless leader Stu (Stuart Ball, WeatherCat developer) recommended another free IP scanner - Angry IP Scanner:

Being a peace-loving person, I can't say I like the title, but it is perfectly usable software and you can just download it avoiding any Mac App Store hassles. 

I assume there are a number of these utilities, so pick the one that suits your fancy.

I'm certainly enjoying making my way through the WC manual. What a rich program!

I did first try Angry IP as recommended in the manual. On my Mac (early 2013 13" MBP running 10.9.5) I found the software to be a bit klugey (sp?). It was hard to open and did not identify my Davis WS after numerous attempts. That sent me to the archives. Luckily, the App Store behaved nicely and the LanScan helped me out immediately. Sort of makes me wonder if something on my computer was causing Angry IP an issue. As you mention, just another option to have available.

Hi, Blick.

No, I'm currently running 10.9.5. on my MBP that travels with me.  I'm probably going to migrate over my 2014 27" iMac which is running the latest greatest during the holidays when I try to finalize my overall set up and create my webpage. I'm hoping Santa brings me several soil and leaf sensors!

Mavericks turned out to be a solid release of OS X (at least by the time they got to release 5). Enjoy.
