TeamViewer help, please?

I think several of you are using TeamViewer to control a remote computer.

I have installed the free version of TeamViewer on my iMac at home (where WeatherCat resides), and on my new MacBook Pro. I've got an account, added the iMac to the account list, and can control it just fine from my MBP. I've rebooted remotely, and successfully reconnected, so the ID on the iMac remains is persistent, and I've added the personal password.

What I don't know, and can't test, is will it still work when I'm not on the same Airport network. Does logging in and assigning the iMac to the list work to identify it across the Internet? Or do I need to set up a proxy or some other sort of connection. The manuals is Greek to me.

Suggestions?

If you have added the iMac to the account list and you are logging in using your email address and a password it should work remotely. What doesn't work remotely is trying to login using the ID and Password that changes periodically. You should be able to test this before you leave home by the following:

• Turn off wireless network on your MBP
• Disconnect your iPhone from your home network
• Turn on Personal Hotspot on your iPhone
• Connect MBP to iPhone hotspot, thus forcing the iPhone to use your carrier's data server
• Login from your MBP using TeamViewer

You can also run to the library or local hotspot in town and test the MBP without having to mess with the settings.

I definitely recommend testing this before you leave. It took me a couple of tries to figure out how to do it. The first time I did not test it and I could not login. It was too late to try anything different until I went back home at the end of that trip and tweaked what I was doing.

That worked perfectly the first attempt, John! I'd never used hot spot before. I used my LTE iPad, and connected the MBP to it via USB. Turned off Wi-fi on the iPad and MBP, so it was using LTE. Connected quickly, and no problem with logging on using the remembered personal password.

Might try an Un-installer, if it has one. I doubt it is in a plist file. Even if it is, it's probably encrypted. If you can't get around this in the normal, non-geek user mode, try changing the Finder settings to show suffix codes (.app, .text, .html, etc.) plus search for anything with TeamViewer in it. Also search for the dev or company name (TeamViewer GmbH). And, of course, <Teamviwer Support/FAQ>.

Highly recommend a great password manager, also. I use 1Password for storing passwords, of course. It has a Menu Bar icon/access, so you are not limited to browser use. It's also great for storing app registration info.

I also use a password manager. I use LastPass because it works, is highly secure and it is considerably less expensive than 1Password. It's not as pretty as 1Password but I like the price. It is free if you only use it on your iMac or MacBook. It's $12USD @ year if you want to use it on your iOS devices. 1Password is $50 USD but they charge for upgrades so it's considerably more than the $12 subscription. Both options work great.
