Ordered the wireless temperature/humidity station (Davis 6382). Got it a a great price via Provantage web site. Ground shipping from California wasn't bad either, but it was direct ship from Davis Instruments and they took more than a week just to get it on the truck. Then is was another week coming across to Georgia. (I had more time than money so I didn't pay for faster shipping.)
We've been talking about (in another thread) about extending the cable on the unit. Haven't gotten into that yet. Currently the station is mounted next to my VP2 ISS to verify if the two instruments record the temperature and humidity the same. After 24 hours of observations, the two sensors are consistently within + or - 1?F in temperature, and + or - 2% relative humidity; sufficient for my purposes. Discovered that the 6382 increments only 1? instead of the .1? sensitivity of the main ISS station. Not sure if it is the sensor or the Console that prevents the sensor from reading smaller increments. That limitation is disconcerting but it will still serve my purposes for the added sensor capability.
In a day or so, I plan to relocate the new sensor further from the house, down in the woods. At the new location, I suspect it won't be able to transmit the distance back to the console in the house. If that proves to be the case, one thought is to move the transmitter alone closer to the house using an extension cable back to the sensor unit. (Will be talking to Davis support to verify if extending that cable is viable, per the other discussion thread.) That is the less expensive solution. The other solution is to setup a re-transmitter device that Davis Instruments sells. Will see. Meanwhile, fun to be expanding the capabilities of the personal weather station.
Anyone else out there have additional sensors on their station? The VP2 takes up to 8 extra devices.
