California's problem with the water spigot handle . . .
« on: February 06, 2015, 12:11:12 AM »
Dear WeatherCat drought watchers.

The last significant rain we've had in Northern California was December 19, 2014.  Look at the current National Weather Service forecast page for this afternoon:

We are staring at another one of those "atmospheric river" phenomena that are affectionately known as the "Pineapple Express."  From no rain at all to potential flooding in just one day.

We Californians definitely need to replace the handle on that water spigot . . . . seems to be a little hard to control these days!  :o

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Spigot problems, indeed. I heard on news about the coming rainfall and expected problems with too much. Guess the expression "when it rains it pours" is apropos.

Dear LesCimes and WeatherCat drought watchers,

Spigot problems, indeed. I heard on news about the coming rainfall and expected problems with too much. Guess the expression "when it rains it pours" is apropos.

At least in Orinda things are thus far okay.  Plenty of wind.  We had a brief power outage this morning, but I'm not sure if that wind related or one of those folks plowing into a power pole on their way to work.  Actually, so far the rainfall amounts have been disappointing: 0.37" (9.4 mm).  But there is still plenty of Pineapple express out there headed our way.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Dear WeatherCat drought (err, I mean) flood watchers,

Things are really out of control here in Orinda all of a sudden!!

That's a rainfall rate of 252 mm per hour for you metric types . . . .

. . . Is California being washed into the Pacific?

*Sniff*, . . . . not exactly.  With all the wind preceding this storm, some seeds got into the collector cone of my rain gauge.  :-[

When I stirred the debris around, the water in the cone drained out.  Thus creating the apparent deluge.  [rain2]

So, if your rain gauge does seem to be working on a windy day . . . . . here is a possible cause to investigate!
