Sensor Errors
« on: November 14, 2014, 03:45:55 PM »
I awoke this morning to discover 8 Sensor errors associated with wind speed. Last summer I moved my anemometer to a new location but it is still wired to the ISS. We had record breaking rains in September but last night was the first snow storm following a hard freeze (temperatures in the teens (F) for most of 36 hours. I assume I need to be checking the connections on both ends to see if they are as weatherproof as I thought they were. Is there anything else to check?

You have to love the irony of investigating one's weather station in cold, snowy weather.

One additional weird thing is that an hour later I have 16 Sensor errors and 2 comms errors but the Live Data tool only shows the original 8 Sensor errors and no Comms errors. Thoughts?

Can you grab a screenshot showing the basic gauges window, the status window and the live data view please? I'd like to see what the various counts are  [tup]

Dear Blick and WeatherCat Davis station troubleshooters,

I awoke this morning to discover 8 Sensor errors associated with wind speed.

Bummer dude!  :(

I thought the anemometer had no exposed connection on that end?  So the only thing to check would be the ISS box.  However, I thought you reported that your 123 battery was a few years old and you had just had a hard freeze.  It might be time to replace that battery.  Those are the sort of conditions that are hardest on a battery and the anemometer has the longest run of cable, so it stands to reason that a weak battery would cause sensor errors in the anemometer first.

During my Mella-drama, I was seeing sensor errors on my thermometer/hydrometer and anemometer.  Since I have a long cable run to the my thermometer/hydrometer as well, it does suggest that batteries can fail in that way.

You have to love the irony of investigating one's weather station in cold, snowy weather.

Alas, the best made plans of mice and men are . . . . about equal! . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Thanks Blick - they all seem consistent now (16 sensor error, 2 comms).
