WC hangs when reading data from WeatherlinkIP
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:53:34 PM »
I have a Davis VP2+ and WeatherlinkIP with WC running on an iMac with Lion, 24/7.  The station name on the Davis map is WO3E/3.  All seems to work well, WC is fully functional, and data is visible on the Davis site as well as Wunderground KPALEBAN7.

When I startup WC on a MacBookPro with Mavericks (where it does NOT run 24/7), WC begins to load about 500 items from the WLIP over WiFi.   However, the 500-item load is never completed, but fails after loading less than half the data items.  Successive loads are repeatedly attempted, with failure every time.  No other WC operations are possible while the load attempts are in progress, and WC must be forced to quit.  A representative Apple Console log entry is below, although the failure does not happen at the same point during the 500-item load:

3/30/14 2:15:56.438 PM WeatherCat[333]: Reading historical block 234 of 513 45% done
3/30/14 2:16:12.694 PM WeatherCat[333]: ***Failed*** - Aborting.

I THINK the WLIP provides two functions: (1) a realtime connection transmitting VP2+ data from the Davis console to my wireless router and then to the internet, and (2) a data storage function to permit recovery of historical data to supplement the realtime data delivery.  The first function is apparently working OK.

Any suggestions as to why WC is unable to acquire the historical data from the WLIP logger?  Thanks.

Every davis logger can store historical information, which depending on the settings, can be over a long period.
Every Davis logger, also the WLIP, can only be used by one program.
If you are trying to run two Weathercat programs at the same time, one of the programs will fail.
The only solution in that case is to run VirtualVP, a windows program, which allows 4 serial (windows) connections and 4 IP connections.

Wim, thanks for your reply.  I had assumed that the WLIP logger would respond to whatever program queried it, but since it can only deal with one program, I will just let WC run on the 24/7 machine and access the data using my other computers via the internet.

Thanks again.
