Dear WeatherCat weather information bloodhounds, . . . . . .

On the WeatherCat Wiki (which we all should visit more often) there is a list of 4 resources to help newcomers setup their weather station to get accurate data.  Don't believe me . . . . . here's the link to prove it!  ;D

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Station_Setup

Oddly, we aren't getting questions about how to set up a weather station very often.  It a real bummer, cuz that's really the fun stuff!  [bounce]  However, we do occasionally get to field such questions.  Since some of you hang out on other forums like WxForum, are there some other - gotta check out - guides in Cyberspace that we should list in addition to those that Stu has provided for us on the Wiki?

Thanks for your sensitive "nose" for Internet resources!  [tup]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

I don't have anything to add, other than I actually checked here when I became a WeatherCatter and the first two resources on this page are broken. I believe this is the link that should replace the first one:

CWOP Weather Station Siting, Performance, and Data Quality Guide: http://www.comptus.com/PDF/CWOP_Guide.pdf

And this one should replace the second one:

NOAA Personal Weather Station Siting: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/epz/mesonet/CWOP-Siting.pdf

Hi Blick and WeatherCat fans,

I don't have anything to add, other than I actually checked here when I became a WeatherCatter and the first two resources on this page are broken.

Well that isn't exactly a nice juicy new resource, but broken links are almost worse than none at all.  I just fixed the links.

Anybody else know of somethin'?

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

While on the topic of link correction, another link that needs fixing on the wiki:

Under "Weather data submission services," the Weather Underground page has a link inside this sentence, "For more information on the service, you can consult the Wikipedia article on Weather Underground." It goes to the wiki for the 60's-70's radical communist organization.

It should be linked to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_Underground_(weather_service)

Dear gvmelbrty and WeatherCat Wiki "critics,"

Sufferin' succotash, I'm at my iPad while getting a haircut and I find this posting about a broken link!  Man it is a lot harder to fix something on the Wiki from an iPad!

I hope I fixed it, but I'll check again when I get home.  Tablets are okay, but there are times when nothing but a Mac will due!!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S. Looks okay from my Mac

P.P.S. Alas Tapatalk HD isn't so good about keeping text formatted.  I've cleaned this posting a bit using my good ol' reliable Mac!

Sent from Panoramix using Tapatalk HD

Nice work Edouard - bonus points for editing on an iPad  [tup]

As a general note, anybody can edit the wiki - you just need to register first (we only allow registered users to edit to keep the spam out).

I am willing but knowledge impaired. I would like to add a page to the Wiki about setting up port forwarding on a Time Capsule but I have never "wikied" before. I spent some time looking around but can't figure out how to get started. I did register an account but would appreciate someone jump starting me. How do I create a new page or stub or whatever it's called to add one more router to the existing list? Do I just add a new reference link and then follow that link to create the page? Thanks.

Some resources on Wiki language. (Re: . . . list on the Wiki?)

Dear Blick and WeatherCat Wiki wannabes,

I am willing but knowledge impaired. I would like to add a page to the Wiki about setting up port forwarding on a Time Capsule but I have never "wikied" before. I spent some time looking around but can't figure out how to get started. I did register an account but would appreciate someone jump starting me.

Well, . . . . . a Wiki is a very odd creature.  It is another one of those geeky hacked-up languages that somebody came up with to do formatted text without the benefit of a browser-based WYSIWYG editing tool.

The Weathercat Wiki software is MediaWiki:

http://www.mediawiki.org/

There is extensive help in the form of - what else - a wiki:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents

There is one page in particular that usually need to refer to when putting up text on the Wiki:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting

How do I create a new page or stub or whatever it's called to add one more router to the existing list? Do I just add a new reference link and then follow that link to create the page? Thanks.

Apologies if I'm looking like a neat freak, but why don't you create a link off this new page and then put your tutorial on a new page from that.

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/General_Macintosh_and_other_computing_tips_and_hints

The Wiki formatting for a link that is part of a bulleted list looks like this:

Code: [Select]
*[[WeatherCat Miscellaneous tips and hints]]
Just edit the page I created and give your new page a suitably descriptive title.  Then save the General Macintosh and other computing tips and hints page.  Once you've done that, you can click on your title and the wiki software will bring you to a composition page where you write to your heart's content!

By the way - thanks for contributing!!  [tup]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]
