Sounds expensive?

. . . .
Actually no, compared to the cost of the Airstream trailer itself, the solar panels are cheap!!! . . .
![Lol2 [lol2]](https://athena.trixology.com/Smileys/default/lol.gif)
I have been researching net metering with solar panels but my preliminary investigation is not looking like this is a good move in my case. I would be laying out about US$25,000-30,000 with a very long payback period.
Cost aside, at least around Orinda there is another potential concern. I've seen a number of solar panel installations around here, and the workmanship sure didn't impress me. They are simply laying the solar panels on the existing roof. It wasn't clear they even were searching for the underlying roof supports. With this sort of installation, if the roof leaks, all the panels would have to be removed before any repairs were made.
Another thing I've seen twice is technicians coming back a few weeks after the installation to repair something.
These are just observations around the neighborhood, but it stands to reason that lots of companies are jumping into this new industry and none of them have many years of installation experience. I think it would be a very difficult task separate out the companies you can really trust from the
"snakes in the grass."Caveat emptor . . . .
Cheers, Edouard
