I have read several posts in the forum where a corrupted preferences file (com.trixology.weathercat.plist) was the apparent cause of an issue. I haven’t run into this issue but I decided it would be a good idea to prepare for it.
I decided the best way was to setup a weekly backup archive of the preferences file. I wanted to keep each week’s backup by adding a date stamp to the name. In the event of a big mistake I couldn’t correct or a corrupted file, I’ll have multiple backups to quickly choose from to recover the preferences file.
I use the excellent backup program Carbon Copy Cloner, if you are not familiar with it then I highly recommend you check it out. It can do simple file or folder backups or complete system backups. I ditched Time Machine a long time ago in favor of Carbon Copy Cloner. It is many times faster in backups and restores, and where Time Machine has failed on me, Carbon Copy Cloner never has.
