Hello Jos, Stu, Edouard and all WeatherCats,
sorry for the delay...

Edouard, you are right: If I really do upgrade to VP2 plus, the whole USB voodoo was the reason to think about WeatherLinkIP. On the other hand Jos pointed out that it may be a problem to use both Ethernet and WiFi at the same time. But I think he found a solution for this one. Again, "if" I do the upgrade - I will let you know.

Thanks for all your input! [tup]

Just want to awake this thread once more...  Now I am in the hot phase of changing all my stuff.  :o

I will replace my MacBook with a refurbished MacMini 2,7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 with 8GB of RAM and 500 GB HD. This should be no problem, because I want to migrate with the assistant so I have all data 1:1 on the new machine. Does anybody have experience with this one?

The second replacement is the LaCrosse WS2300. It will be replaced with a wireless Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus with fan aspirated radiation shield with Mac USB data logger. In this one I am unsure: Will WeatherCat accept the new station with additional data in its statistics data? I mean, the past 6 years of data collected with LaCrosse will be continued without problems but with additional data (UV, Solar Radiation)?

Can I stay 8) and all will be working?

Cheers,
Reinhard

Hi Reinhard
I will let Stu give you the ups on this but as long as you move all your WeatherCat Folders and except Preferences Folder over to the new machine WeatherCat should continue on as it should because WC converts all the info into WeatherCatData.cat and WeatherCatData.cat.hrs so the info should be the same the only thing that might be difference is that in the live data view for some additional sensors

It does not tell any where I can find in WC where the data is from ( I can't find any thing that it is from my LaCrosse) except in the the set up when it ask what Weather Station your using except for your comms  so Your Preference file will have to be changed I Think other than that it should be good to go
Good Luck

Hi Reinhard,

When you launch WeatherCat it checks the hardware hasn't changed. If it has, you'll be shown a dialog telling you the hardware has changed and you should check your current conditions calculator rules and banner to make sure the channels available on the new hardware are matching up with the new ones - if not just edit them to fix.

Stats for new sensors you didn't have before will start on the date you change hardware and go on from there, everything else will be as before.

I would suggest getting hold of some ferrite clamps and putting them on the USB cable to the logger - one at the the logger end and another at the computer end (if the logger cable doesn't have them already). I'd recommend this for any new station.

Hi Reinhard, Randall, and WeatherCat fans,

I will replace my MacBook with a refurbished MacMini 2,7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 with 8GB of RAM and 500 GB HD. This should be no problem, because I want to migrate with the assistant so I have all data 1:1 on the new machine. Does anybody have experience with this one?

If you set the option on the migration assistant to move all files over, your WeatherCat files should move over without a problem.  To be sure simply check that the files that were on your old Mac in the ~/Library/WeatherCatData folder indeed were migrated over.

This work exactly as you would want it to I believe.  When I added a radiation sensor to my VP-2 WeatherCat updated all displays appropriately.  For years before the radiation sensor, the fields are blank as they should be.  WeatherCat should do the right thing for you.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Thanks Stu, Randall, Edouard for your positive statements, appreciated very much!

When the new equipment is delivered, I will record all steps that I do and share it here. A few weeks after christmas it's christmas again...  :)

The authorized Austrian dealer says that the model that I want to have (VP2Plus wireless fan aspirated EU version) is out of stock but is ordered at Davis. He expects the shipment from Davis during this week. So I expect it to arrive here on my side within the next two weeks, hopefully.  :-\
The Mini should arrive the next few days.  :)

Cheers,
Reinhard
