WeatherCat support

Does anyone know what the normal response time is when emailing weathercat_support@trixology.com? I emailed them 8 days ago about my MySQL issues, and another one issue, and have not received a reply yet.

Stu has not posted on the forum since March. I know that he has moved and England has been in lockdown on and off a few times, but that only goes so far as far as customer support is concerned. This has happened to too many paying customers.

Try sales@trixology.com and see if that gets a response.

Support is real important.  the only software I have found that has turn around support is WeatherDisplay.  they do have a mac version and their person, Brian Hamilton, answers quickly and often with a solution or at least to help.

Being absent since March is a sad lot of affairs. I hope that the covid has spared him and that he is well.   I too am frustrated to the point at times, that when my Davis goes belly up , I am getting rid of it completely and buying a toy .

Good luck.   I could recommend that you look for other forums that people who are a bit more technical than getting a billygoat station wagon.  http://www.wxforum.net/index.php  would be my first choice.

I too am a bit ticked.  I can't get the email notification to work period, regardless of the email settings, but then again...

Dear AstroSteve, Steve, Weatheraardvark, and WeatherCat faithful,

Does anyone know what the normal response time is when emailing weathercat_support@trixology.com? I emailed them 8 days ago about my MySQL issues, and another one issue, and have not received a reply yet.

Normally, Stu is much faster to respond to technical support issues.  Clearly our fearless leader has some sort of issue.

Stu has not posted on the forum since March. I know that he has moved and England has been in lockdown on and off a few times, but that only goes so far as far as customer support is concerned.

Indeed the situation seems to be more than simply the difficult circumstances in England.  His company was in a very desperate product launch and he was producing a huge amount of code for that.  Unfortunately, as I know all too painfully, bad things can happen to people.  Any sort of ill-health can take away all your free time.

Stuart Ball is WeatherCat.  Unless he has the free time to work on it, we all are stuck.

I am worried about Stu's situation, but I'm up to my neck in troubles and miseries of my own.  I'm afraid we have to simply be patient as much as we are able.

Oh well, . . . . .  Edouard

Stuart Ball is WeatherCat.

And that's what concerns me. Some of us have been around long enough to remember that Stu's previous company and product failed when he simply disappeared one day. A couple of years or so later, his new WeatherCat software became the successor to LWC, inheriting its file structure. But in those intervening years, there was zero support.

Perhaps if he is able, he could turn over the "keys to the kingdom" until he is able to return.

All we'd need would be a good C programmer with detailed knowledge of the Mac OS, FTP, SQL database design and maintenance skills. cmu:-) That person would already have experience with Xcode, of course. After all, that app is free to download and use. [banghead]

....

I tried WC for my mac mini M1 and it didn't work. The Weather-Display program does work with Weather Link Live.
I have the impression that the WC developer has abandoned the project. That's too bad. I liked WeatherCat.
I'm using Weatherlink Pro to store my historical data and Weather-Display for my desktop display.

So Rosetta won't run it for you on the M1?

Different from LWC transition . . . . . (Re: WeatherCat support)
« Reply #9 on: November 29, 2021, 10:23:26 PM »
Dear Steve, Weatheraardvark, X-Air, MitchM, ColdnFrosty and WeatherCat faithful,

And that's what concerns me. Some of us have been around long enough to remember that Stu's previous company and product failed when he simply disappeared one day.

Fortunately, that isn't what happened.  Stu announced that he was going to have withdraw all support from the previous program LWC.  We never found out what the problem was, but the only thing that fits the bill is some sort of legal challenge.  Stu disappeared only for about 6 months and then started working with a few of us on what would become WeatherCat.  WeatherCat showed up only about a year after the demise of LWC.

It was true that we had a very difficult time and I ended up writing a lot of AppleScripts quickly to cheer up the faithful.  That came back to haunt me because the code wasn't of very good quality and they weren't easy to update as Apple changed the OS-X.

Stu is still taking care of the administrative duties on the forum.  New members are still being added and the forum is being backup periodically.  So Stu is still around, but clearly very preoccupied.  My worries are what is the preoccupation.  I hope it is just overwork and not worse.

Edouard

Thanks for the facts, Edouard. ThU32:-) Hoping Stu and family get all the time they need. Also that we all are blessed with a bit more patience. :)

As for running WC on an M1, a simple search shows there are three members reporting they are doing that. There is a fourth who said he did until updating to Monterey, however, he did not note the problem where he originally said it was running fine. [rolleyes2]

Speaking of 'complaints', this community can be helpful to us all, but updating your operational status is also very important. [headbang] When troubleshooting, it is very important to keep good notes about what you changed and when. [computer] Otherwise, you (we) will probably never know what worked. [banghead]

Put me down as one of the users running WeatherCat 3.12 on a MINI M1 with macOS Monterey version 12.0.1. The transition from an aged iMac running some ancient macOS was by the book and without any problems.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll try sales and webmaster, another post said they responded to him.

I had been running Weather Display when I was a windows user and tried it when I switched to Mac but for some reason, I decided to switch to WC. That was 8 years ago and can't remember why. Everything if fine with WC, except for the SQL issue I recently discovered. If I can't get that fixed, I may have to go back to WD.

I’m running Weathercat 3.1.2 on a M3 and the custom gauge bezels are now vertical ellipses instead of circles.  How do I fix this?  Otherwise all is well.

Corrupted preferences (?) (Re: WeatherCat support)
« Reply #14 on: December 22, 2021, 11:50:32 PM »
Dear r.ryerson and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

I’m running Weathercat 3.1.2 on a M3 and the custom gauge bezels are now vertical ellipses instead of circles.  How do I fix this?  Otherwise all is well.

Did this problem start when you upgraded to the M3 Mac?  I thought another WeatherCat user had a similar problem and solved it, but I cannot manage to find the thread.  It sounds to me like a corrupted preference file.  We have instructions on how to make a backup file of your preferences and restore them on the WeatherCat Wiki:

https://wiki.trixology.com/index.php?title=How_to_create_and_use_a_backup_of_your_WeatherCat_preferences_file

If you have backup software you might try restoring the preference file to a time before the problem cropped up.  However, you must follow the procedure described in the Wiki or macOS will overwrite your backup with the corrupted data.

Let us know if this solves your problem.

Cheers, Edouard
