Disable bad sensor readings?
« on: October 11, 2015, 06:49:00 PM »
Hi,  I have a Vantage Pro and the wind speed sensor on the anemometer is bad (heard a noise a couple of times while checking the cabling- it is on a 25 foot mast).  Is there a way to disable Weather Cat (2.2.1) from recording Wind Speed?   I can only find a disable setting for CWOP for wind.  It would be nice not to unplug the anemometer cable as it is still recording wind direction.

Thanks,
Jeff

A feature request? (Re: Disable bad sensor readings?)

Dear Jeff and WeatherCat station caregivers,

Hi,  I have a Vantage Pro

Is it a Pro or Pro-2?  If it is the previous generation, you might be hard pressed to obtain parts.

The wind speed sensor on the anemometer is bad (heard a noise a couple of times while checking the cabling- it is on a 25 foot mast).  Is there a way to disable Weather Cat (2.2.1) from recording Wind Speed?

As far as I know, at the moment there isn't any way to do this.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.   In addition, I thought that WeatherCat would not work if some of the sensors were unplugged like the anemometer.  There is a problem like this earlier in the year and if I recall correctly, WeatherCat will wait for all standard sensors (temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind) to be available before processing any data.

Sounds to me like this might be a desirable feature request.  As our weather stations have grown older, we are all starting to have equipment problems.  So this is new territory that Stu hasn't had to deal with much until now because most of us had "spring chicken" stations.  With next day air shipping, new parts can be obtained reasonably quickly, but during that time, it would be handy to collect and store the data we have coming from undamaged sensors while ignoring a sensor we know is malfunctioning.

Opinions all you WeatherCatters?

Cheers, Edouard

Felix

I'd like to see this request put in the queue...as long as it's after the DST bug which will be rearing its ugly head again for USA users on 1 Nov 15 (unless it has already been fixed in a release during the past six months and I missed it in the notes).

Hi Jeff,

If you're talking about reporting wind data on a web page, just comment out your wind speed variable until your anemometer is repaired. This of course won't help your CWOP reports, but...

Dear Jeff, Felix, Keith and WeatherCat data upload junkies,

It just occurred to me that perhaps disabling the sensor may still not get you off the hook at least if you submit to AWEKAS.  Last winter we had a period of extreme calm and effectively it appeared that my station had lost wind speed and direction.  As a result, the AWEKAS disabled all data coming from my station.  I don't know what the policies are of the other data upload services.  However, disabling some data might effectively put you "off the air" anyway.

Something to think about . . . .

Edouard

It is the original VP not the VP 2.  I am hoping they use the same part.  Support request to Davis has not been answered yet.  I only submit to Wunderground and CWOP (CWOP you can toggle off the wind or other erroneous sensors.)  No personal website.  My UV sensor went south several years ago as well.  I keep hoping Davis upgrades the VP lineage.  Until then, I just do not want to buy another outdated piece of equipment.

I am going to put this aside and tackle a bigger issue - getting the Cat to see my weather station with El Capitan.    I just hate OS upgrades  [banghead]

I'll put in a feature request in a few days to disable bad sensor data.

Thanks!

Up and running with El Capitan.  Driver update, reboot and then, still not work, disconnect and connect  [tup]

Now back to the  anemometer and waiting for Davis- seems like email is a very long wait with them.

Dear Jeff and WeatherCat station caregivers, . . .

Up and running with El Capitan.

Congratulations.  You are a bolder man than me!

I understand your thinking.  I wonder what Davis has cooking behind closed door in their R&D department.  They certainly could give the console much needed facelift without changing any other components of the VP-2 system.  The whole system needs an overhaul, but unless the new system from Oregon Scientific is enough to kick Davis in the pants, the tough economic times don't seem justify that sort of investment.

Oh well, . . .  Edouard

Only reason I upgraded from Mavericks to El Capitan was one of my bird listing programs, currently Windows only, has a new Mac beta version I want to provide feedback on.  Interestingly it only runs on El Capitan.  Otherwise most OS updates are more headache than it is worth.
