Great composition in your photo, Edouard. You inspired me to give this a try but I decided to wait one day, for the full moon. Alas, it is not to be. We had clear skies when I went to bed but awoke to an unexpected snowstorm this morning. We need the water so not getting the photo is ok. Thanks for posting yours.

You obviously waited until the tree was too big to move. A little pre-planning is part of a good photographer's "bag-o-yricks"! [rockon]

Maybe you should use a <camera like this one>, if you are so opposed to 'post-processing'.
OTOH, surely a bit of 'transforming/skewing' in PSE should have been allowed. [tup]

The Moon comes around once a month! (Re: Moods of the sky .. 2015-16)

Dear Blick, X-Air, and WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . .

Great composition in your photo, Edouard. You inspired me to give this a try but I decided to wait one day, for the full moon. Alas, it is not to be. Honestly, I could have gladly traded the photo for more rain, so I second your motion!

The Moon "does its thing" roughly once a month, so there will be future opportunities.

Thanks!  :)

To be perfectly honest, I had one more obstacle to deal with.  I was at the complete back of the deck and the resident gardeners had piled up some pots and other gardening stuff right where I needed to stand to take the picture.  So it was more than hard enough even with a modern DSLR!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Another fiery forecast (Re: Moods of the sky .. 2015-16)

Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs,

This morning offered a clear indication of what was coming to arrive later today:

About 1/2 hour later I captured this rippled cloud effect as the sun was trying to peek through the clouds:

The rain held off until we had completed all our errands, but now it is raining at a rate of 0.31" of rain per hour and this is "only the beginning!"  [rain2]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs,

The weather has turned dry and warm in California.  This morning I captured this much more calm predawn scene:

The condensation trails add effect to the clouds.

Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . . .

The sun is rising earlier and earlier every day.  Very soon it will be rising before I get up and my days are long enough as it is.  So this is one of last pre-dawn photos I'll be taking until late autumn:

Enjoy it!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Nice day. Just moving some snow from where it fell to where I would rather store it.

That's quite the snow blower you've got there, Blick! Bet you don't do that job wearing your kilt. [lol]

No kilt for snow blowing. That is a blower manufactured in Canada by Bercomac. It has it's own 23-HP engine and it will throw snow 40 feet at full throttle.

Bercomac
Well, anything with a Mac in it must be good! I bought a snow shovel in Winnipeg some 45+ years ago; still works like a champ! Like you, I figure those Canucks know a thing or two about snow! [rockon] [tup] BTW, are you sure that company isn't Brrrcomac?

Dear Blick, Stu, Herb, and WeatherCat home caregivers,

Nice day. Just moving some snow from where it fell to where I would rather store it.

Ya' know, this was a very helpful picture . . . .

I was thinking about moving north.  I'm now quite certain that I most definitely don't want to that far north!  [freeze]

That is a blower manufactured in Canada by Bercomac. It has it's own 23-HP engine and it will throw snow 40 feet at full throttle.

[wink] . . . . Awe shucks, just imagine how much better it would perform with some speed parts!  Why if you get some aluminum heads, dual carburetors and exhaust, a hot cam . . . . . . .

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S. Oh by the way, thanks for the contribution to this thread.  [tup]  I'm just about "fished out" at this point.

Fair weather clouds . . . . (Re: Moods of the sky .. 2015-16)

Dear WeatherCat shutterbugs, . . . .

I've been itching to contribute something new to this thread, but really haven't managed to take anything very inspired.  Still, yesterday we had some fair weather clouds and I managed to take this:

Nothing super but it was enough of an excuse to give this thread a bump.  So is anyone else seeing some more inspired skies around their weather instruments now that summer approaches?  For some of you, this is when the really dramatic weather starts!  [thunder]

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

The clouds of nuisance rain? (Re: Moods of the sky .. 2015-16)
« Reply #133 on: June 17, 2016, 10:30:11 PM »
Dear WeatherCat sky watchers,

We had an unusually heavy cloud cover this morning.  It was unusual enough that I took a shot at it:

Yesterday, there was a chance of late season showers but the rain mostly disappeared before reaching land.  Today we have occasional nuisance showers which was not forecast, but not enough to even generate one bucket tip.  Only recently have the forecasters around here used the term "nuisance rain," but it is a very appropriate phrase.  It is possible to have just enough drops to be really annoying, but not nearly enough rain to do any good for anything.

Oh well, such are the conditions that prevail in California . . . . .

Edouard
