I use Rain-X once a year. Works like a champion.

Help me out... What would the purpose of the Rain X be?

Rain-X coated on the inside of the collection cup simply makes the surface sllcker and smoother so that every impediment (dust, etc) to each drop of water is minimised. This is for the purpose of maximising the amount of water collected. As they say at CoCoRaHS, every drop counts. I don't know how much difference it makes, but Edouard does it and that's good enough for me.

Hmm, sounds good to me. Guess I'll give it a try. Maybe I'll get more rain.  JK

Rain-X especially helps for those of us with heated rain collector cones. In light snow or drizzle, the rain or snowflake can evaporate from the heat before being collected. The Rain-X reduces the time the precipitation is on the warm cone.
