Blancy-Criddle ET synthetic channel of June 29, 2014
« on: June 30, 2014, 12:21:47 AM »
Dear WeatherCat early adopters,

So have you been wondering what is all the fuss with the new Synthetic Channels capability of WeatherCat 2.0?  If so, here is your chance to get your feet wet without too much struggle.

As previously reported, I had written a few AppleScript synthetic channels as part of the private beta test of WeatherCat 2.  I finally sat down and wrote up some documentation to go with my Blancy-Criddle synthetic channel.  It computes the Blancy-Criddle estimate of your evapotranspiration in real-time so that you can graph it, display it, an so on.

So there are now an AppleScript example and copious documentation on how to install and use it.  Curious?  You can download the whole package here:

www.canebas.org/WeatherCat/AppleScripts/Blancy-Criddle%20synthetic%20channel%202014-06-29.zip

The documentation gives an overview of how to set up a synthetic channel, so it might be handy for budding synthetic channel developers as well.

If you have any problems with the AppleScript (or questions, comments, etc.) please post them on this thread.

Hope you'all enjoy it!  :)

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Very nice work Edouard  [tup]

(Spotted a small typo on page 2: 'Correct the two valves shown here.' )

[Edit Do you mind if I steal it for the 2.0 distribution?]

Howdy Stu and WeatherCat AppleScripters,

Very nice work Edouard  [tup]

Awe shucks!  You're welcome!

(Spotted a small typo on page 2: 'Correct the two valves shown here.' )

 ;) . . . . Sufferin' succotash . . . . I guess I got engine valve train on da' brain! . . .  ;D

Okay, I've fixed it on my copy.

Before I post a new version - does anybody spot any other typos?  I did write the documentation a bit quick so there are bound to be a few more.

[Edit Do you mind if I steal it for the 2.0 distribution?]

 ;) . . . . Of course I mind!  >:(  . . . stealing it before I even get a chance to fix the typos? . . .  [lol2]

Let me take a look at the other synthetic channels I'm running right now.  The only other one that is complicated enough to deserve a little extra documentation is the one that compares the actually monthly rainfall with the seasonal average.  However, it may be too weird to be worth including.

Not to mention the fact, it is just plain depressin'!!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Nicely done Edouard! And a double-bonus "nicely done" for the  Blancy-Criddle ET docs - very clear and nice attention to detail. You must have been an Instructional Designer in a previous life.
