Keeping records while away for 2 months
« on: December 06, 2013, 02:41:50 PM »
I have to take my computer with me while I am away for 2 months early next year. I am going ask my daughter to do daily updates from my weather station to her computer and when I come back I am hoping to update everything on my computer after I export the data from hers. From what I have read, I believe I can set the Weather Cat preferences on her computer to keep backups for 2 months and then export them to mine. Does this seem right? Once get back I am not sure how to load them, do I just hit "Backup" then find the right file?

I don't want a 2 month gap in my data history. I have to keep on top of global warming, haha.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug,
I'd suggest moving your current installation to your daughter's computer so the setup is the same (be sure to install any USB to serial drivers needed), then when you get back, move it back to your existing machine. If nothing has changed on your existing machine, you'll only need to move back the WeatherCatData folder.

When moving to your daughter's machine, turn off any on-line services in WeatherCat so it doesn't try to upload (simple web, custom web, CWOP, Wunderground etc) unless you want it to, but I'm guessing it'll only be running sporadically.

When you do get back and move it all back to your machine, it'll upload the missing data to Wunderground - this will probably take quite a while, but happens in the background (unless you turn off the 'Enable Historical Uploads' tick-box in its Wunderground preferences).

Details of moving from one machine to another can be found on the wiki at:

Thanks, I will give it a test run before I commit to it.
