hard drive failing
« on: May 25, 2013, 01:05:59 AM »
My trusty 2007 iMac that I use to upload my data to Weather Underground is on it's last legs.

I want to move all of my archived data to a new machine ...  can someone please tell me what WC files (and where to find them) I should copy?

OS:  10.7

Thanks in advance!

hi

from the wiki : http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Installation_And_Requirements

Quote
Moving WeatherCat from one machine to another
First shutdown WeatherCat on the old machine then move the following folders and files to identical locations on the new machine (some of these folders may not exist depending on your setup):
~/Library/WeatherCatData
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatCustomWeb
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatMedia
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatTemp
~/Library/Application Support/WeatherCatWeb
~/Library/Preferences/com.trixology.weathercat.plist
~/Library/WeatherCatBackups (Version 1.1.0 and later only)
~/Documents/WeatherCatReports
(where ~ is your home directory).
Note that on OS X 10.7 or later, the Library folder is hidden. You can make it visible again via the following terminal command:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
Also be sure to install the correct drivers for your station or USB to serial converter* on the new machine before running WeatherCat.
Note: WMR200, WH1080/2080/3080 stations do not need drivers to work with WeatherCat.

Thanks for the info.  I just did the transfer and it worked except:

most of my custom graphs on the new machine are missing data from 27 December 2012 until 9 May 2013.  One of them has it though so it seems like it's hiding someplace.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Any signs of missing files? (Re: hard drive failing)

Hi Drew and WeatherCat fans,

there is no data on the new machine from 27 December 2012 until 9 May 2013.  Almost all of the data from this year is missing.

Any thoughts?  Did I miss copying something?

Did you have a full backup of your old hard drive or were you rescuing data from a damaged hard drive?

If you can take a look at the contents of this folder:

~/Library/WeatherCatData/Location1/2013

In my case it looks like this:

Code: [Select]
1_WeatherCatData.cat
1_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs
2_WeatherCatData.cat
2_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs
3_WeatherCatData.cat
3_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs
4_WeatherCatData.cat
4_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs
5_WeatherCatData.cat
5_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs

Do you see files like that which are apparently empty or are the files themselves missing?

Hope that's some help.

cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hi,

The files you mentioned in your post are there.

I can see all of the data in the 'data viewer/editor' log however, it isn't showing up in my custom graphs.

I'm a little disappointed since the custom rain tally graph is blank ....  and rain is such a rare event here.

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT

The data in the data viewer/editor is not accurate.
