Rotating images in banner?
« on: July 03, 2013, 02:13:32 PM »
An idle mind is a dangerous things [computer]:

I have a collection of images I've taken over the years that I use as header images. The happen to be the same aspect ratio as the banner image. I'd love to have them rotate periodically, say daily. I change the image now by hand about once a week for my own amusement.

If you really want to get creative the image selected could rotate based on user provided tags that would be used to match a limited set of conditions such as the local time of day, season, weather.

In other words, at sunset my banner would show an image tagged with 'sunset', if it's raining it would show a banner tagged with 'rain', in the Fall it would show a banner tagged with 'fall'. If I have more than one rain image the banner-maker would randomly select one. If it's night and raining it would select an image with both tags or, if there aren't any, select one or the other. A nice feature would  allow me to specify priority of time, season or weather.

Tags could be in file name or EXIF and would have to match a limited set of tags, for example

Time: Sunrise, day, sunset, night
Season : Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring
Weather: Clear, rain, snow, fog, wind

Yes, I know I'd have to go through 100+ images and add the tags.
