Can I 'force' a data download from my Davis consol?
« on: June 05, 2021, 12:31:21 PM »
Hello! I've been a WeatherCat user since 2013. It runs all by itself on a Mac Mini server and has been flawless over the years. Yesterday I needed to change a rain value and all seemed to go as planned except this morning I noticed my website was not updating and hadn't since I'd changed my rain value. For some reason WeatherCat was stuck on the values it had received prior to my change, so every entry for the last day was the same...temperature, winds, rain, etc. I restarted the server and all is now good, but since WeatherCat had received values during this 'frozen' time, I now have a flat line through my data for much of the last 24 hours. Is there a way to 'force' WeatherCat to update from history on the console? Thanks in advance!

PS: The console shows changes during this period, so I know the history in it is correct.

You haven't given us the details about who manufactured the console, version of WeatherCat you are using, and which data logger. However, assuming you are using Davis hardware, a recent version of the software, and you have set the DataLoggerInterval (in Tools | Station Hardware Options) to a reasonable number, you should be able to upload from your data logger to WeatherCat by closing the WeatherCat app and waiting at least 30 minutes. When you restart WeatherCat you should see a window pop open displaying progress of uploading 512 historical data records.

Read this Wiki article to see how setting your DataLoggerInterval determines the length of time your logger stores data.

Please let us know the outcome.

I sincerely apologize for not including those details. The console is a Davis Vantage Pro2, the WeatherCat is Version 3.12 Build 34 (3.1.2). I believe the USB logger was purchased from Davis when the device was purchased in 2013. The DataLogger Interval is set to 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, your suggestion didn't work. It shows the uploading of 500+ records, but they do not 'override' the existing 'straight line' data. I can see the 'straight line' data when I look at the Data Viewer/Editor. In other words, it is saying that there are values there, so I don't need to load them? Bill

No worries. I can't explain why your graph is not picking up the data, but you are correct - if the data shows up in the Data Viewer/Editor, it is definitely there. I don't know much about the basic graphs, which you are using because I use custom graphs and when I have uploaded historical records in the past, my graphs update within a few minutes. Since both types of graphs use the same data, I am surprised you didn't see an update. Someone else will know more than I do about graphs. Are you looking at the graph on your desktop or on your website? Would you mind sharing the link to your website?

Sorry, I didn't get back to you sooner, but I do medical IT work on weekends. Unfortunately, the graphs have now updated so the error is no longer showing. However, the graphs were correct as they are following the data showing in the WeatherCat database. When things 'froze', the data at the time of the freeze replicated the same data for about 8 hours, hence the flat line in the graphs. My issue is trying to refresh the data with the history from the console as it is correct. I just can't get it to overwrite the 'frozen' data with the correct data from the console.

FYI, my website is at:  http://www.duurstedekennels.com/weather/

Thanks for your efforts! Bill

Interesting (to me, anyway), I had the exact same thing you describe happen to me at about the same time it was happening to you! I didn't notice it until later. Console was correct, but WC was stuck for about 8 hours. What are the chances? I have no explanation but I hope it doesn't happen again.
