forcing weathercat to redownload data
« on: October 16, 2016, 11:21:20 PM »
Hi everyone
I've got weathercat running with a davis vantage vue wireless
My computer had been off for about a week so as usual I opened weathercat to download the historical data off davis
Unfortunately weathercat crashed as the last sets of data were being downloaded and now this data is not being displayed at all (N/As)
Weatherlink has downloaded the historical data without issue
Is there anyway I can force weathercat to redownload the missing set of data?
Thanks

Lisa

Dear Lisa and WeatherCat tinkers,

First thing first since this is your first post to the WeatherCat forum.

Welcome!

Now to the business at hand, . . . .

Hi everyone

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way that I know of.  What does WeatherCat display for the data that you are missing?  Does it have nothing or nonsense values?

The one technique that should work would be quit WeatherCat and edit the WeatherCat data files eliminating all the data that would have been uploaded from the malfunctioning data logger download.  To do this you would need to find the data files which are located in:

~/Library/WeatherCatData/Location1/2016

Where the ~ repesents your home folder.  The file you want to edit is: 10_WeatherCatData.cat.  It is a plain text file although it is recommended that you use a special purpose text editor like Text Wranger.  This editor can be downloaded for free.

The text files will look like this (with the reference at the top as shown:)

Code: [Select]
WeatherCat data file ***If you modify this file, be sure to delete the relevent .hrs file***.
t and V are not optional, all other fields are.
t is the day, hour and minute (2 digits each), T is outside temperature, Ti is internal temperature, T1 to T8 is auxiliary temperatures, D is dew point, Pr is barometric pressure, W is wind speed,
Wd is wind direction, Wc is wind chill, Wg is wind gust, Ph is hourly precipitation, P is total precipitation,
H is outside humidity, Hi is internal humidity, H1 to H8 are auxiliary humidity sensors, S is solar, CO21 to CO24 is CO2
Sm1 to Sm4 is soil moisture, Lw1 to Lw4 is leaf wetness, St1 to St4 is soil temperature,
Lt1 to Lt4 is leaf temperature, U is UV, Pm is monthly precipitation, Py is annual precipitation, Ed is daily ET, Em is monthly ET, Ey is yearly ET, C is current conditions (delimited by double quotes), V is validation.

You would need to work out which days the data should be wiped out and all that would be needed is to delete all lines from that point until the present.

Once you have saved the edited file, you would need to delete the file: 10_WeatherCatData.cat.hrs which is an index file before starting WeatherCat back up again.  When you do, WeatherCat will find itself back in the data state you were when it started the historical download and should download everything from the data logger.

Obviously, this is serious surgery.  Definitely have a backup of all data files (perhaps more than one,) and be prepare to roll back to those backups if something goes wrong.

Sorry, that's the only way I know of.  If anybody else has a simplier way by all means come forward!

Cheers, Edouard

Thanks for the advice Edouard, that worked a treat! Weathercat is now up to date - any suggestions on how to get weathercat to send this previously missing data set onto wunderground? Looks as though it didn't occur automatically once I reopened weathercat.

Again thanks for your help!

EDITED - Not to worry, found it in the wiki - DUH!

Dear Lisa and WeatherCat folks with "way too many things going" in their lives, . . .

EDITED - Not to worry, found it in the wiki - DUH!

Well, Thank you!  Because that solved Robert's question and I had completely forgotten!

Alas, that isn't the worst part.  The Wiki changelog never lies.  I did forget it even if I wrote it!!  AHHHHHH!!!!!   [banghead]

Just one of those days I guess . . . . .  :o
