Yet another "Yosemite moment" . . . .
« on: July 12, 2015, 11:25:03 PM »
Dear WeatherCat fans of the Steve Jobs version of Apple Computer,

This morning I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to OS 10.10.4.  I started the update and shortly after my Mac rebooted I got the message: "unable to verify update with Apple.  Please reboot your computer to try downloading update again."  Grumble, grumble, grumble.  Okay, I waited and my Mac finally managed to reboot and come back to the App store.  I tried again the installation process started again - still unable to verify update with Apple.  What gives!?!?!??

Remembering that some Mac users have success with downloading the combo update installer, I downloaded that and at least got OS X updated.  Having done that, this seems to have given the App store updater some issues, but it managed to download and install everything else.  At least my computer was back up to normal.

Time spent - 2 hours.  Sure I tried to multitask as best I could during that time, but I couldn't take on anything that required my undivided attention.

Repeat after me . . . . . .

Oh how much I miss Steve Jobs!! . . . .

Edouard . . . .

I've never done an OS update via the MAS. Always used the Combo Updater, even though they may still offer Delta updaters. To me, the Store just adds another layer of possible bit dropping... but what do I know. It would be even better if Apple published SHA data that could let the user verify things before running the updater. We just need to drink more kool aid, I guess. After all, it's Apple! Nothing can go wrong... Nothing can go rong... nothing kan goe rong... nuthng kan... [banghead] [goofy] :'(

Lol! Bring him back? You mean like ? in a seance?

[lights dim and group of faithful gather in a circle, holding hands while slowly moving in a counter-clockwise direction.]

group in a low rhythmic cadence: "Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple ?"

Seer: "Hello? ? Hello Steve. ? Do you hear me? We need an answer. ? Our upgrades are much more shallow than they used to be. They're filled with new bugs and come way too often. ? Hello? ? I? (pause) I think I'm getting something. ? Who should we blame for our misery oh great one who's failures we lovingly forget?"

group continues low rhythmic cadence without breaking: "Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple ? Aaaaaaaa" [A long exhale as the cadence stops]

[Harp music]

Sure! I'd pay $20 to see that.

Hi Edouard and The Cat family
I always go to downloads.apple.com/support and download from there and always download the combo installer so I always have a copy just in case I have to reinstall it later

PS Apple will never be the same without JOBs

cheers
