WMR88. Any pointers?
« on: December 03, 2014, 10:05:21 AM »
Hi All,

Been absent for awhile but have recently upgraded to Yosemite and WeatherCat 2.  I'm not having much success in getting WCat2 to "see" the WMR 88.  Any tips??

Cheers, Pete

Have you tried resetting the data logger? (Re: WMR88. Any pointers?)

Dear Pete and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of folks with that station on the board, you may have some trouble getting assistance.  Checking the WeatherCat Wiki I see a suggestion to reset the data logger:

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/Oregon_Scientific

The instructions are for the WMR200, but there might be an analogous technique for the WMR88.  Perhaps check the manual?

Good luck with that!

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

P.S. If you find instructions for resetting the data logger for the WMR88, could you post them here so I could add them to the Wiki?

Hi Edouard,

Sadly the WMR does not have a data logger facility.  I've tried various makes of USB cable, it does indicate on the display when the USB is connected but although the lights on no one is at home!!   I've even tried it on Windoze without success.  The manual is useless when it comes to PC connectivity. I think I might well end up cannibalising the sensors for other projects or eBay.

Pete.

Have you tried resetting the station ?

I found the following on the sandysoft forum, I know it's PC based software but it may help.

To regain proper access and function for the WMR 88 to communicate with Cumulus a backup battery reset is required with the WMR 88:

STEP 1 Restart you computer
STEP 2 Start Cumulus - (Weather Cat)
STEP 3 Disconnect the USB cable for the WMR 88 from the computer
STEP 4 Once house power is restored and the AC power adapter still plugged into your WMR88 and still plugged into the AC outlet - remove the backup batteries in your WMR 88
STEP 5 Plug the USB cable back into your computer
STEP 6 The New Record green light should restart (blink) and regain communication with you WMR 88 and update "new record highs"
STEP 7 Put your backup batteries back into your WMR 88

Hi Jace,

Many thanks for the advice but it appears not to work.  I even tried variations. I'm positive it's not WC  as I'm getting nothing on the Windoze either. Regardless, IMHO you shouldn't have to go through some unspecified ritual in order to gain access to bad USB output. I've decided to kill the station output on the web site for the time being and just use the webcam and Met Office Data and warnings.

In the longer term I've had a bit of luck acquiring an old weather station which just might be upgradeable over a period of time but I'll expand more on that in a new thread.

Cheers, P

Update on the WMR88.   After re-sighting the anemometer component, I kept getting dropouts on readings, to a more stable signal area the station is now supplying data to WC2 OK.  Long term I'm still looking to invest in a more professional set up, may be along the lines of Instromet.

Happy New Year.

Peter.
