WC Mail Tools missing
« on: June 07, 2014, 11:58:46 PM »
I installed the scripts and set up the mail scripts then tested using Mail app email tester only to find this error

error "File file Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Mail tools.scpt wasn?t found." number -43 from file "Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Mail tools.scpt" to file

When I look for WC Mail tools.scpt it does not exist

Same thing with Twitter test script

error "File file Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Script tools.scpt wasn?t found." number -43 from file "Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Script tools.scpt" to file

and when Twitter Upload Script runs I get error "File file Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Script tools.scpt wasn?t found." number -43 from file "Apple HD:Applications:WeatherCat Scripts:WeatherCat Script Library:WeatherCat Script Libraries:WC Script tools.scpt" to file

Dear kelsowx and WeatherCat scripters,

I'm fairly sure you installed these AppleScripts in the wrong location on your hard drive.  The aren't supposed to be installed in the main Applications folder where you find most of the software you use.  There is a second Applications folder inside your Home folder.  If you click on your home folder, you'll find it there.  Try moving the entire package into the "little" Applications folder inside your Home folder.

Let me know that solves your problem.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hi Eduardo, Thanks for that info. I still get an error with Twitter Uploader "WeatherCat encountered the following error in posting Twitter data: ' '."

Alas ASTwitterLibrary is broken. (Re: WC Mail Tools missing)

Dear kelsowx and WeatherCat script fans,

Hi Eduardo, Thanks for that info. I still get an error with Twitter Uploader "WeatherCat encountered the following error in posting Twitter data: ' '."

Alas, WC Twitter Uploader will not work for anyone who didn't start uploading before Twitter changed their API.  When that API was changed, the AppleScript libraries that my script utilizes to access Twitter stopped working.  That library: ASTwitterLibrary, was patched so that we could upload once more, but authenticating new users still doesn't work.  There is another thread on this forum that describes the whole sad affair:

Sorry, since my AppleScript is completely dependent upon ASTwitterLibrary, there is nothing I can do.  We can only hope that the developer finally manages to make the library work once more.

Cheers, Edouard

Huh? I wasn't aware of anyone who had problems so long as they were using the current version of the AppleScript tools.  Are you using the latest version?

Also, when the problem start for you?  I wasn't aware of any changes since December.

If nothing else, try reinstalling to see if that solves your problem.

I have an account that will allow short emails to go to twitter, all I need is to make the twitter uploader send an email instead and the problem will be solved

When did this problem start? (Re: WC Mail Tools missing)

Dear kelsowx and WeatherCat AppleScript fans,

I'm still confused.  Were you using WC Twitter Uploader to submit weather data to Twitter or not?  If it had worked in the past, when did it stop working and were there any changes you made to your system that might have caused the problem?

I have an account that will allow short emails to go to twitter, all I need is to make the twitter uploader send an email instead and the problem will be solved

The AppleScript framework certainly has the means to send emails, so you could modify WC Twitter Uploader to do this.  However, this is once more a very clumsy way to implement a bridge to Twitter, and I would prefer to avoid duct tape and bailing wire solutions like what had existed for LWC and broke.  This script was written because of a number of people who had been left in the lurch when that previous system failed.  I'm certainly very sorry that J.C. Computing hasn't been able to fix his library yet, but I do hope a solution will eventually come.

Cheers, Edouard
