Weather Cat stops when iMac in standby
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:24:55 AM »
I'm new to Weather Cat and  local weather monitoring... reading reviews Weather Cat seemed the best option for an iMac. When the iMac is in standby the weather monitoring on Weathercat stops presumably because the data via USB from Davis Vantage VUE is not being handled by the iMac when on standby. Is there any way to overcome this so that I can see my local weather on iPhone/iPod etc throughout the day, when my iMac is in standby? Sorry if it's a dumb question! David

Hi DavidHail,
I am afraid WeatherCat needs a computer running 24/7. Many of us use a cheap and less power-consuming older MacMini or MacBook as dedicated WeatherCat computer.
Cheers, and welcome to the forum!

I set my iMac to "never sleep" in energy settings, but I do allow the monitor to sleep. When I'm traveling, I close all other apps and logout and the VantageVue and iMac just keep chugging along and I can check my weather from remote locations via the web. The computer keeps uploading data to Wunderground 24/7.
