Newbie having problems with set up
« on: January 02, 2013, 05:44:10 PM »
Hello all,

I'm very new to all this. I have a new Maplin's weather station that I understand is a rebranded Fine Offset WH1081

I've installed WeatherCat on my Mac, yet for some reason the program will not find the USB device. I've tried reboots, different cables, powering the station down, restarting my computer etc. I've emailled WeatherCat and they've asked me to power down....but to no avail,

Can anyone help - I'm keen to get going but I just cannot overcome this.

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve and WeatherCat fans,  [cat]

I've installed WeatherCat on my Mac, yet for some reason the program will not find the USB device. I've tried reboots, different cables, powering the station down, restarting my computer etc. I've emailled WeatherCat and they've asked me to power down....but to no avail,

One thing to check is to make sure is that your weather station isn't having some sort of a USB interface problem.  To make sure you could try one of two things.  If you run Growl you might try running Hardware Growler and see what it reports when you plug in your weather station and unplug it again.  It should give you some indication like the name of your weather station.  If it doesn't report anything - you probably have a defective weather station.

Another way to do the same thing (maybe) is to use Apple System Profiler (in your Utilities folder.)  It should like the USB devices that are plugged into your Mac directly under the USB entry.  I just checked it with my Davis VP-2 and it correctly reports that my weather station is plugged in.  I'm not as sure about this technique but obviously is spares you of the Growl hassles.

Hope this is some help.

Cheers, Edouard  [cheers1]

Hi Steve,
The issue could be a couple of things:
1: Your station isn't responding when WeatherCat tries to talk to it.
2: It's responding in a way WeatherCat doesn't recognise
3: It isn't a WH1080.

If you open Applications->Utilities->Console.app then try to connect with WeatherCat, are there any messages logged there?

Also, can you post an image of (or a link to) the station so I can try identify it?

Cheers,
Stu.

Hi - I think I probably have the same station (Maplin N96GY) as it gives the same description in System profiler - the only difference is that mine gives the Location ID as 0x06200000 / 4. Product ID and Vendor ID are the same. It's working fine using WeatherCat 1.1.2.
