New graph style
« on: December 06, 2012, 12:44:50 AM »
Here is a big ask and I doubt it will ever make it past the wish list but I thought I would throw it out there......

I like the way the graphs on weatherzone.com.au look (see attached image), specifically the wind speed being coloured differently in the filled area and the wind direction being indicated by little icons.

Maybe there is a chance this could make version 10 of WeatherCat  ;D

Hi Col,

You can already have the graphs shaded using the "fill" option on any custom graph.

Cool idea with the meteograph-like wind direction arrows.

Steve,
I know I can fill the graph, but, what I was trying to get across was that the filled area of the graph has several colours dependant on the wind speed.
As you can see from the image I attached, as the wind speed increases, the colour of the filled area differs, so it starts at the bottom coloured blue and then when it reaches a preset speed, anything above that goes green until it reaches the next preset at which anything over that is yellow, then orange, then red etc. etc.

Appreciate your answer but I must have failed to get across what I actually meant in the original posting.

Interestingly, when I was doing the shading for the graphs, the same idea crossed my mind - all it requires is custom shading parameters. Currently they use just two when shaded - the colour and alpha at the bottom and the colour and alpha at the top (the colours are computed from the base colour set), but it wouldn't be too difficult to add more . Of course, you wouldn't (by default) get clearly delineated colours, more of a blend as the colours change. The other problem is it assumes a normalised vertical scale (0 to 1) - what you'd need here is the ability to specify absolute values for each colour as well.

So yes, do-able, UI is a bit of a challenge though. I've added it to the requests list.

Thanks Stu. I can live without it but this is essentially a "wish list" area after all.

MAGNIFICENT job so far. A real credit to everyone who has done work on it to date.

Ah! I completely missed that. I thought the different colors were different bits of data, not incremental changes in the same data. I had to zoom in this time to see the details, which I didn't do before replying. Sorry for the confusion on my part.
