MacOS Sonoma 14.1.2 crash
« on: December 03, 2023, 02:59:25 PM »
Hi
I’ve just updated my MacOS to the latest version which is Sonoma 14.1.2 and I cannot get WeatherCat  ver 3.20 build 364(3.2.0) to work. The software starts and the dials and station gauges load to screen but the data does not load and after a few moments the software quits with ‘ WeatherCat quit unexpectedly’ alert. Everything was fine before the upgrade.

Davis Vantage Pro 2
Mac Mini M1

Any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe a corrupted prefs file? If you have a backup try to replace the com.trixology.weathercat.plist in your users library with the corresponding file from the backup.

Which Mac are you using, Intel or "M" series?
Is your system working now?

I have just upgraded to Sonoma 14.3.  Running the latest version of WeatherCat.  Although the current data is showing OK in the toolbar, my custom Graphs do not seem to update when I switch the Mac on, can anyone help please?

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I'm running WC on a Mac Mini with macOS 14.3 without problems, which doesn't help you of course, but maybe it does mean it is worth looking at 'cleaning' your system in general. There is a nice free utility called Onyx which helped me out a few times in the past. It is basically a GUI for macOS' built-in maintenance and cleaning commands.

Worth giving a try and low risk (never had nasty side effects for me). YMMV.

Make sure to pick the right version for your system, and be patient when it is running.

Good luck.

Hello,

I had the same problem, Crash on startup.

I solved the problem by backing up the WC files in the library > Removed the com.trixology.weathercat.plist file > Restarted the Mac > Launched WC > Replaced the Location1 file with the old file > Set preferences and Custom Graphs in WC.

WC works fine, I even recommend giving it a try without replacing com.trixology.weathercat.plist .

Best regards, Horst.

Dear Horst and WeatherCat troubleshooters,

I had the same problem, Crash on startup.

I solved the problem by . . . . .

Thanks for sharing your solution.  It is a good reminder to make sure that you have the WeatherCat data backup feature turned on and have a backup of your WeatherCat preference file.  The instructions on how to do this are (as always) on the WeatherCat Wiki:

I love it when a WeatherCatter finds a solution.

Hello,

In my case the replacement of "com.trixology.weathercat.plist" was insufficient, WC always crashes, that's why I recommend to make a test by duplicating WC data and take out the duplicated folder of the library, delete all the files in WC Data except the location1 file, restart the computer and then start WC.

If WC starts normally, put back one by one the ".plist" files from the WC Data copy and restart WC each time until there is another crash and the corrupted file is found.

Best regards. Horst.

It runs fine until I setup station comms - immediate crash. WeatherLink IP. At that point, it crashes on every launch. Remove settings, restart, it launches fine, enter comms IP address, crash.

EDIT: Worked when I deleted the data folder.
